This is a logic error and putting trust in core to be infallible.
I would recommend scraping major pools and using a consensus for this.
If core ever has an issue this will propagate into your chain and set off your rebuild with faulty data when it should not be rebuilt.

I blew my weekly Fable budget on doing a code audit.

Was really fuggin' impressed.

https://github.com/BobClawblaw/bitcoinmachinecode/blob/main/docs/audits/CODEBASE_AUDIT_2026-09-03.md

Headline: the block-connect path enforces script validity, UTXO existence, PoW and the BIP30/BIP141 rules, but not the rest of Bitcoin Core's CheckBlock/ConnectBlock. Two CRITICAL and five HIGH findings in the validation module (§6.3) together mean that a block Core rejects can be accepted, stored and applied by this node

The sad thing is these clankers will replace men in the next few decades and there will be no-one left to find these.

AI auditing AI-generated code will just end up as automated confirmation bias.

Once humans stop understanding consensus rules down to the byte level, one subtle logic bug in custom validation will collapse the whole house of cards.

Well, I just spent 3 hours tracking down a BTC address I was using on a Raspberry Pi project I thought I'd lost when it crashed but maybe recovered with pywallet in 2012 so I thought it might be worth a little now...

0.0003BTC, around $26

Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

At least I can cross it off the list now.

Reminder...

We are actually in a relatively good time (in the senses that we are not in a pandemic or war crisis) to get all our finances together. In what ever way,... You can as well Increase the Bitcoin investment funds, so if eventually AI takes over you will have some where to rely on when it comes to survive at the mean time.
