This is a logic error and putting trust in core to be infallible.
I would recommend scraping major pools and using a consensus for this.
If core ever has an issue this will propagate into your chain and set off your rebuild with faulty data when it should not be rebuilt.

I blew my weekly Fable budget on doing a code audit.

Was really fuggin' impressed.

https://github.com/BobClawblaw/bitcoinmachinecode/blob/main/docs/audits/CODEBASE_AUDIT_2026-09-03.md

Headline: the block-connect path enforces script validity, UTXO existence, PoW and the BIP30/BIP141 rules, but not the rest of Bitcoin Core's CheckBlock/ConnectBlock. Two CRITICAL and five HIGH findings in the validation module (§6.3) together mean that a block Core rejects can be accepted, stored and applied by this node

The sad thing is these clankers will replace men in the next few decades and there will be no-one left to find these.

Reminder...

We are actually in a relatively good time (in the senses that we are not in a pandemic or war crisis) to get all our finances together. In what ever way,... You can as well Increase the Bitcoin investment funds, so if eventually AI takes over you will have some where to rely on when it comes to survive at the mean time.

Some are not at war and do not have a disease crisis - but wars/conflicts are active all over the world, not just the one between Ukraine and Russia that everyone knows about. In addition, the Strait of Hormuz is still not open, and for a good part of the world this means less oil/gas and imports of the same at far higher prices than before.

In addition to the war in Eastern Europe, an unprecedented drought destroyed a large part of agricultural production, so a challenging period awaits us. I hope someone will ask AI how to solve the problem of climate change - because for the last few months I've felt like I'm living in North Africa, and even though September has already started, the heat is still there and you can't live without AC.

Been saying for years we need to learn how to terraform our own planet before worrying about other ones.

All these country's sinking with rising oceans and none have invested in artificial seas, I found 3 uninhabited places on earth where a couple of seas would lower the oceans significantly, so if I could do it in about 1/2 of research then wtf is stopping all these so called experts?

rich people looking to cull the human population to under 5 billion?

Earth terraforming gets zero funding, but OpenAI drops $1B overnight on "cyber defense" right after building an AI that finds zero-days on its own.

Misaligned priorities everywhere you look.

Those that control the worlds purse strings do not act until something directly effects them.

cuz THAT pisses me off to no end, that loss of a headphone jack.

Motorola are reportedly working with Graphene right now. A lot of their phones still have headphone jacks.

But... I fear that cancer could be one of nature's ways of regulating the ecosystem. I hope I'm wrong.

You're wrong. Before modern times, most people would die before cancer could affect them. The reason it's become such a thing is we've removed or reduced many of those causes.

One of the problems with 'curing cancer' is that it's not just one thing. There are several promising leads on research though.

Not only for cancer, but also for many other diseases that we cannot cure today and that many people suffer from. I watched a video about hospitals in China, one looks like a spaceship (literally), and AI is already deeply integrated into all systems, making the job easier for everyone who works there.

Most popular surgery: finger transplants.

I really hope I am. But, what if the fact that we live longer now, has triggered cancer as nature's mechanism of counteracting the longer life expectancies we have now achieved?

In other words, what if we are not supposed to live longer than nature intended (and took millions of years to evolve)?

Just a thought (not based on any evidence)...

Indeed. I think we haven't had the (evolutionary) time to develop natural selection-based resistance to forms of cancer that tend to appear after we are, say, 50: 99% of our genetic history has H.sapiens mostly die around 40 or so. And we mostly don't reproduce after that age anyway. So nothing for selection-based evolution to steer.

AI image generation has/had an issue with finger count and positioning. Hence, when in charge of a hospital...

Lets not forget the prevalence of cancer causing agents in our supply chains and the fact that those living off locally grown/manufactured products did not have to deal with and could not grow a natural immunity to. Also I think it takes millions of years to grow immunity to radiation which with global supply chains appears when it never did.

Nothing has triggered cancer as that mechanism. It was always there, it was just rarely experienced because there were so many other awesome and unpleasant ways to die.

The idea of "supposed" suggests some kind of mechanism for that which is not in evidence. Though various religions suggest or state things but if you want to go that way, you're typically eliminating evolution from the equation anyway.

As d_eddie mentions, there has been no evolutionary pressure against it. It typically occurs after reproduction age for most individuals. For the few it doesn't, that's just not enough pressure vs the cost to push things that way.

Interesting to note that sharks don't get cancer. There may be something interesting there. Worth knowing that in evolutionary terms, they are very old organisms.

I saw this video recently which offers some interesting possibilities in where things may go.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5U8M2JtAHk

Cancer bit begins at 19:23 though the whole video is worth the watch (frog mutilation warning).

Several science fiction stories explore what happens if humans become immortal. Some suggest that what eventually gets us is boredom or death by misadventure.

personally if I could live 200 or 300 years always being 30 years old in exceedingly good health I think it would get boring if not at 200 or 300th birthday certainly by 500th birthday.
