We're slipping despite the "good" weekly close - actually, right after it. This says a lot about the accuracy of crypto twatters. Or maybe it's just a quick stop hunt? As usual, she does what she does. We're kept watching and guessing.

I believe this could signal a major shift in the market. It often seems as though the market is poised specifically to trigger the ‘stop-loss’ orders of small investors; the underlying reason is that large investors are constantly trying to force small investors out of the market. Cry

But why do the small investors place longs and shorts instead of buying and hodling?

BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-09-28 (Late Morning Edition)

Published: 2026-09-28 09:04 AM CT

Bitcoin is grinding lower, down 1.60% over the last 24 hours as the market digests a dominant institutional accumulation story. Strategy acquired 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million, pushing its total holdings to 847,666 BTC, yet this bullish corporate action failed to lift sentiment from its Greed reading of 74. The price action suggests that despite strong treasury buying, the broader market remains cautious and directionless.

Outlook: Traders should monitor the US Treasury's $202 billion coupon settlement on September 30, as any spillover into overnight financing rates could pressure Bitcoin's perpetual futures funding. Additionally, watch whether the $82,813 support level holds, as options data suggests traders are not yet pricing in a deep sell-off despite the recent pullback.

MARKET ANALYSIS

Bitcoin is at $83,645.00, down 1.60% over 24 hours and down 3.6% over seven days. The derived Institutional Lag Composite reads -6 on a -50 to +50 scale. Buyers appear to be defending the $81,500 support level, keeping the price above that floor despite the recent pullback. The Fear & Greed index at 74 suggests retail sentiment remains optimistic, which often precedes a period of consolidation or a deeper correction as leverage is flushed out. A break below $81,500 would signal that sellers have overwhelmed this defensive zone, likely opening the path toward $79,500. Conversely, a sustained move above $86,000 would invalidate the current risk-off bias and suggest renewed institutional demand. The market is currently trapped between these two boundaries, with neither side showing decisive momentum.

SCENARIOS

- Consolidation Above $81,500 (43%): triggers: Price closes above $81,500 and remains below $86,000 through Friday. Invalidation: A daily close below $81,500 or above $86,000 through Friday.
- Breakout Toward $87,500 (14%): triggers: Price reclaims and holds above $86,000 through Friday. Invalidation: Price fails to close above $86,000 through Friday.
- Downside Re-test of $79,500 (43%): triggers: Price loses the $81,500 support level through Friday. Invalidation: Price recovers and closes above $81,500 through Friday.

KEY MARKET MOVERS

- US Treasury Settlement: The $202 billion coupon settlement on September 30 could pressure overnight financing rates, potentially impacting Bitcoin's perpetual futures funding if repo market stress emerges.

TOP STORIES

1. Strategy Buys 1,665 More Bitcoin as Its BTC Treasury Hits 847,666
URL: https://news.bitcoin.com/crypto-news/strategy-buys-1665-more-bitcoin-as-its-btc-treasury-hits-847666
Published: 2026-09-28 07:11 AM CT
Summary: Strategy acquired 1,665 BTC for $142.7 million, bringing its total holdings to 847,666 BTC. The company financed this purchase by selling 1,469,165 shares of MSTR common stock, which generated $246.2 million in net proceeds. Strategy also repurchased $151.7 million of its variable-rate preferred stock, STRC, using the remaining stock sale proceeds and $48.1 million in existing cash. Michael Saylor reported that the firm holds $6.02 billion in USD assets and maintains a 3.8-year USD duration as of September 27. The average cost basis for the entire 847,666 BTC treasury is approximately $75,437 per coin.

2. Leveraged funds increase net short in CME Bitcoin futures while asset managers add longs
URL: https://cryptoslate.com/big-institutional-money-is-split-on-bitcoins-next-move-as-massive-market-bets-shift
Published: 2026-09-28 01:15 AM CT
Summary: Leveraged funds increased their net short position in standard CME Bitcoin futures by 1,599 contracts during the week ending September 22. This shift represents a net futures exposure change of 7,995 BTC-equivalent, driven by a decrease in long positions and an increase in short positions. Asset managers moved in the opposite direction, adding 411 contracts to their net long position as open interest rose to 22,315 contracts. The CFTC data does not indicate whether these funds held offsetting spot Bitcoin or ETF positions, meaning the futures activity does not confirm outright bearish sentiment or spot market selling. Bitcoin traded near $84,650 with $16.14 billion in 24-hour volume as of Sunday morning, providing a price backdrop distinct from the Tuesday futures snapshot.

3. Bitcoin dips below $83,000 as Asia markets sell
URL: https://cryptoslate.com/bitcoin-dips-below-83000-on-monday-extending-last-weeks-retreat
Published: 2026-09-28 07:30 AM CT
Summary: Bitcoin fell below $83,000 during Monday's Asia session, reaching approximately $82,953 and marking a 1.79% decline over the preceding 24 hours. This move breached the lower edge of the $83,000 to $85,000 range observed in late Friday trading. Brent crude futures rose 1.6% to $106 a barrel and 30-year U.S. Treasury yields edged up to about 5.51% during the same period, coinciding with the crypto decline. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded $134.5 million in net inflows on Friday, Sept. 25, indicating that institutional demand had not turned negative prior to the weekend. The drop extends last week's retreat from the $87,000 level, with market participants watching for further trading below the $83,000 threshold.

4. Crypto traders show no panic despite cooling sentiment
URL: https://www.coindesk.com/daybook-us/2026/09/28/bitcoin-traders-aren-t-panicking-yet-despite-cooling-sentiment
Published: 2026-09-28
Summary: Bitcoin and other major cryptocurrencies have faced selling pressure since the recent uptrend stalled, but options market data indicates traders are not yet scrambling for crash insurance. The skew metric, which measures the price difference between downside puts and upside calls, shows that while bullish demand has cooled, downside protection remains historically cheap. Data analytics firm Laevia noted that the current skew reading sits at the 92nd percentile of its 52-week range, meaning puts are significantly less expensive than their typical median. On-chain and derivatives data from 10x Research confirmed that implied volatility for Bitcoin options is near cycle lows, even as realized volatility runs higher, suggesting the market is not pricing in a deep sell-off. Bitcoin prices have pulled back to test the $82,813 support level, which previously acted as resistance, with the next move depending on whether this support holds.

5. US Treasury Settlement Could Test Bitcoin Funding
URL: https://cryptoslate.com/a-202-billion-u-s-treasury-settlement-hits-september-30-and-it-could-trigger-a-surprise-move-in-bitcoin
Published: 2026-09-27 08:15 PM CT
Summary: The US Treasury faces a $202 billion coupon settlement on September 30, with $143.58 billion in debt maturing that day. This leaves $58.42 billion in net new face value, which is not a direct cash drain but could pressure overnight financing rates. The Federal Home Loan Bank of New York reports that funding markets remain calm, with SOFR at 3.88% as of September 24. Bitcoin trades at $83,697.87, down 1.41% in the last 24 hours, as traders watch for any spillover from repo market stress. A sustained rise in SOFR above the Fed's reserve rate, combined with weakening perpetual-futures funding, would signal potential pressure on Bitcoin.

Because they are usually newbie idiots who fall for the whole "trading derivatives is somehow different to gambling" scam.

They stay for more profit And big investors exploit their greed. Therefore, I believe it is better for small investors to avoid holding long and short positions.
