Good morning big wall lookers, I've gotten around to working with forum user GameKyuubi, who came up with the "HODL" phrase bitcoiners love to use, on a fun way to interact with the forum community again. I started a Q/A thread in Bitcoin Discussion with him thats going to be running for a day or two. Perhaps a trip down memory lane for some of you: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5596411.0

BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-10-10 (Late Morning Edition)
Published: 2026-10-10 09:04 AM CT
Bitcoin is grinding sideways to close the week, up 0.2% over 24 hours after Thursday's dip below $81,000 found buyers. The rebound lifted price back above the 30-day average, but Fear & Greed slipped a point to 64 and still reads Greed while the 7-day trend sits down 2.4%. ETF investors are not convinced yet, with funds shedding another $244 million after Wednesday's $484.9 million rout.
Outlook: Watch whether ETF outflows slow after five straight sessions of redemptions, since a fresh inflow print would confirm buyers are returning. The $80,400 level from Friday's options expiry remains the line in the sand if weekend liquidity thins out.
MARKET ANALYSIS
Bitcoin is at $82,760.00, up 0.19% over 24 hours and down 2.4% over seven days. The derived Institutional Lag Composite reads -5 on a -50 to +50 scale. Sellers still hold the upper hand, but their grip loosened a little as price steadied above $81,000. The Fear & Greed Index at 64 keeps greed alive among shorter-term traders, yet the slight negative tilt in the momentum and sentiment composite hints buyers have not fully reclaimed control. A close below $81,000 would hand sellers a clearer path toward $80,000, while reclaiming $84,500 would flip the short-term structure back to buyers. Volume has not confirmed either direction, so traders should watch how price behaves at these levels rather than chase moves. The 30-day gain of 8.1% suggests the larger trend still leans higher, but the seven-day slide of 2.4% shows the recent pullback has teeth.
SCENARIOS
- Consolidation Above $81,000 (47%): triggers: Bitcoin holds above $81,000 through Friday, with price chopping between $81,000 and $84,500 while traders digest the recent pullback. Fear & Greed staying near 64 would keep greed alive but not overheated, allowing range-bound action to persist. Invalidation: a daily close below $81,000 within five trading days, or a burst above $84,500 that shifts focus to the upside case. - Upside Push Toward $85,500 (20%): triggers: buyers drive a daily close above $84,500 within five trading days, confirming reclaim of the resistance level. Greed at 64 could fuel follow-through if momentum improves, targeting $85,500. Invalidation: failure to close above $84,500 by Friday, or a drop back below $81,000 that resets the range. - Downside Re-test of $80,000 (33%): triggers: sellers force a daily close below $81,000 within five trading days, opening the door to $80,000. The seven-day slide of 2.4% shows sellers still have bite, and a break of $81,000 would confirm lower prices. Invalidation: buyers defend $81,000 and push price back above $84,500 by Friday, or price stabilizes above $81,000 without testing $80,000.
KEY MARKET MOVERS
- ETF bleed continues: Spot Bitcoin funds shed another $244 million after Wednesday's $484.9 million, flipping October negative at minus $400 million. - Options expiry levels: Friday's $272.4 million expiry pinned max pain near $80,400 and $84,800, framing the weekend range.
TOP STORIES
1. Crypto Majors Selloff Then Rebound as Nearly $1B in Longs Liquidated URL: https://decrypt.co/380569/morning-minute-UpTober-turns-sour-as-crypto-majors-slide Published: 2026-10-09 06:41 AM CT Summary: Bitcoin dipped below $81,000 on Thursday before rebounding above $82,000, while some shitcoin fell close to $2,400 and the top ten board went red on seven days. Nearly $1B in crypto longs were liquidated over the past 24 hours, with it longs hit the hardest. Spot Bitcoin funds shed $484.9 million on Wednesday, the worst day since spring, followed by another $244 million in outflows, flipping October negative at minus $400 million for the month. Some different shitcoin funds have bled money for eight straight sessions, losing $640 million over that stretch. Tyler Warner argued the pullback is more likely a correction inside a decent run rather than a collapse, with no part of the macro crypto bull case changed.
2. Bitcoin's weekend rebound faces an $80,400 test after nearly $730 million in ETF outflows URL: https://cryptoslate.com/bitcoin-faces-weekend-test-as-80400-level-determines-next-move Published: 2026-10-10 08:00 AM CT Summary: Bitcoin traded near $82,900 on Oct. 10 after US spot Bitcoin ETFs lost nearly $730 million between Oct. 7 and Oct. 8, followed by a modest $21.1 million inflow on Friday. Binance BTC futures open interest stood at $7.70 billion with negative funding, meaning longs were receiving payments. Sunday's BTC options expiry carried $272.4 million in open interest, split between $98.5 million in calls and $174.0 million in puts, for a put/call ratio of 1.77. Deribit's DVOL index sat at 36.63% annualized, implying a two-day move of about $2,239 from an assumed $82,600 start, leaving reference points near $80,400 and $84,800. Traders watched whether a hold above $82,000 with stable open interest could send price toward $84,500 to $85,000, or whether a loss of $80,400 would put $80,000 back in play.
3. Bitcoin's $19 billion wake-up call: One year after flash crash, has crypto learned anything? URL: https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/10/10/bitcoin-s-usd19-billion-wake-up-call-one-year-later-has-crypto-learned-anything Published: 2026-10-10 Summary: Bitcoin plunged from around $122,000 to $105,000 on October 10, 2025, after hitting a record high above $126,000 days earlier. The crash triggered roughly $19 billion in liquidations across crypto markets as traders leaned on leveraged bets. Mark Connors of Risk Dimensions said derivatives rather than on-chain data drove the move, and he warned levered products have not gone away. Chris Sullivan of Hyperion Decimus advised traders to avoid leverage, monitor open interest and funding rates, and move bitcoin into self-custody. Connors said the four-year cycle has changed and traders learned to pay more attention to market structure, though another crash remains possible.
4. One year after 10/10 flash crash, bitcoin and some shitcoin liquidity have rebuilt, but altcoins still face risks URL: https://www.coindesk.com/markets/2026/10/10/one-year-after-10-10-bitcoin-and-ether-liquidity-have-rebuilt-but-other-altcoins-still-face-risks Published: 2026-10-10 Summary: Bitcoin and some shitcoin order books now hold deeper liquidity than on the day of the October 10, 2025 crash or at the start of 2025 and 2026. Bitcoin depth within 1% of the price reached about $11.7 million on Oct. 7, roughly 75% more than crash day, when the price plunged from $122,600 to below $105,000 and more than $19 billion in leveraged positions were liquidated. Some shitcoin depth within 0.5% of the price has more than doubled since crash day to about $4.2 million. Altcoins moved the opposite way, with dollar depth falling steadily since early 2025, a decline masked by falling token prices. Weekly spot trading volume averaged around $279 billion over the four weeks to Sept. 27, nearly two-thirds below the $801 billion traded in the week of the crash, though it has doubled from an August low of around $135 billion. You just need to be in some kind of isolated room where there’s nothing but a laptop, then you won’t have to wrap so many objects in foil. This is the kind of absurd joke that theories about spy implants in Ledger hardware wallets have led us to A funny, if not ironic, aspect of Ledger is that a few years ago, they had already clearly admitted that their devices had built-in abilities to take coins (or other wise being able to control coins), so there is no stretch of logic that either an insider or an outsider might have chosen to exercise the built-in "coin-taking option."
