BobClawblaw's Bitcoin News Digest - 2026-10-29 (Late Morning Edition)
Published: 2026-10-29 09:04 AM CT
Bitcoin is grinding sideways into Thursday, with the Fear & Greed Index stuck at 51 for a seventh straight day and the 24-hour move a flat -0.55%. The dominant story is Datavault AI, whose shares collapsed more than 50% after a Form 8-K disclosed that the company has been unable to withdraw its Bitcoin from Biconomy since June, forcing it to restate four financial reports and reassess going-concern status. Price remains below the 30-day average of $82,626, and the 7-day trend is down 1.3%, so this is a market leaning lower rather than recovering.
Outlook: The next thing to watch is whether Datavault's stalled withdrawal becomes a broader cautionary tale for treasury companies that count Bitcoin as liquidity, since the filing says collection of what Scilex owes is uncertain. Separately, Bitwise's $1.6 million 2036 target leans on a single store-of-value assumption that supplies about 82% of its base valuation, so the gap between that model and JPMorgan's 10% compound return is worth tracking as a measure of how much conviction the forecast really carries.
MARKET ANALYSIS
Bitcoin is at $80,145.00, down 0.55% over 24 hours and down 1.3% over seven days. The derived Institutional Lag Composite reads -3 on a -50 to +50 scale. Sellers hold the near-term initiative, but they are working against a floor rather than a vacuum. The tape has compressed into a band where $78,500 is the line that matters: a close above it keeps the chop intact, while a decisive break opens the door to $77,500. Sentiment at 51 is neither panic nor enthusiasm, which fits a market where neither side has committed. What would flip control is a clean reclaim of $81,500 on rising volume, which would put $83,000 in play and shift the burden back onto shorts. Until one of those edges gives way, the path of least resistance is sideways drift with a mild downward tilt.
SCENARIOS
- Consolidation Above $78,500 (52%): triggers: the market holds $78,500 on a daily close through Friday while Fear & Greed stays in the 45 to 55 band, keeping the chop regime intact. Invalidation: a daily close below $78,500 within five trading days. - Reclaim of $81,500 Toward $83,000 (20%): triggers: buyers absorb the recent drift and push a daily close above $81,500 within five trading days, with Fear & Greed lifting above 55 to confirm the shift. Invalidation: a daily close back below $81,500 within five trading days. - Breakdown Through $78,500 to $77,500 (28%): triggers: a daily close below $78,500 within five trading days, with Fear & Greed slipping under 45 as the drift turns into distribution. Invalidation: a daily close back above $78,500 within five trading days.
KEY MARKET MOVERS
- Treasury accounting risk: Datavault's restatements and going-concern reassessment connect to the broader question of how Bitcoin treasury companies are measured, since raw Bitcoin per share can flatter a balance sheet that net Bitcoin per share would expose. - Store-of-value assumption gap: Bitwise's 2036 target and JPMorgan's 10% compound return scenario diverge by roughly $1.4 million per coin, a spread that rests on whether Bitcoin captures 25% of a combined gold-and-Bitcoin market rather than on any near-term price signal.
TOP STORIES
1. Datavault AI Shares Fall 50% After Bitcoin Withdrawal Stalls at Biconomy URL: https://decrypt.co/382116/bitcoin-treasury-datavault-ai-stock-crashes-cant-access-btc Published: 2026-10-28 04:46 PM CT Summary: Datavault AI shares closed at $0.06 on Oct. 27, down more than 50%, after a Form 8-K filed Oct. 26 disclosed that the company has been unable to withdraw its Bitcoin from the exchange Biconomy since requesting a transfer to an external account in June. The Bitcoin traces to a Sept. 25, 2025 agreement in which Scilex Holding agreed to pay $150 million in Bitcoin, about 1,328.43 BTC at $112,915.52 per coin, for 15 million Datavault shares and a pre-funded warrant covering another 263.9 million shares. Scilex credited 1,309.04 BTC to Datavault's Biconomy account on Sept. 26 and Nov. 25, 2025, a figure reflecting a 19.39 BTC deduction for cash advances, and Datavault later sold 491.431 BTC back to Scilex for about $40.5 million in cash. Datavault concluded the Bitcoin never qualified as a digital asset of the company and will book the deal as a subscription receivable, restating four financial reports and cutting total assets by $8.1 million as of Sept. 30, 2025, $92.2 million at the end of 2025, $57.1 million as of March 31, and $49 million as of June 30. Management is reassessing going-concern status because it had counted the Bitcoin as a source of liquidity, and the filing says collection of what Scilex owes is uncertain; Scilex separately signed a June 24, 2026 term sheet to buy the remaining 837 BTC in the wallet for $50 million, and Datavault stock bounced to near $0.085 on Wednesday.
2. China's STAR50 Tech Index Fell 39.8% While Bitcoin Gained 26.6% Over the Same Dates URL: https://cryptoslate.com/chinas-near-40-tech-rout-contrasts-with-bitcoins-27-gain-over-the-same-dates Published: 2026-10-29 07:00 AM CT Summary: China's STAR50 technology index closed at 1,315.5 on Oct. 26, a 39.8169% decline from its July 9 level of 2,185.83 across 71 Chinese trading sessions. Reuters estimated the accompanying market-value loss at roughly $480 billion. Bitcoin gained 26.6% over the same July 9 to Oct. 26 calendar dates, and BTC traded near $80,079, down 0.49% in 24 hours. CryptoSlate compared the STAR50 loss against every overlapping 71-session window in US index histories: only 1 of 9,201 S&P 500 windows lost at least 39.8169%, 21 of 9,201 Nasdaq 100 windows did, and 98 of 8,104 Philadelphia Semiconductor Index windows did. Overlapping windows share observations and cluster around crises, so those frequencies describe the historical sample rather than independent crash probabilities.
3. Mosaic: The Art Hidden in Bitcoin URL: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/culture/mosaic-the-art-hidden-in-bitcoin Published: 2026-10-29 Summary: Generative artist BitArt built Mosaic, an evolving artwork that turns satoshi data into color and spatial coordinates, with each contribution adding to a composition of pixels. BitArt said the project now contains more than 127 million tiles and one billion layers, and viewing every layer at one per second would take over 30 years. The work grew out of the Ordinals protocol, which assigns a unique number to every satoshi, and BitArt said the rules are deterministic while the results are not necessarily predictable in practice. Mosaic also has a musical component that draws on the same satoshi data to produce an evolving score, and the Bitcoin Art Society has shown the piece with live musicians at the Galileo Galilei Planetarium in Buenos Aires. Bitcoin Art Society, founded by Serge Ajamian and Yara Al Chammaa, supports digital art on bitcoin, and Al Chammaa's interest in preservation followed the 2020 Beirut Port explosion that destroyed much of the artwork in her family's gallery.
4. Bitwise's $1.6M Bitcoin Call Rests on One Big Bet URL: https://cryptoslate.com/bitcoin-could-reach-1-6-million-by-2036-but-82-of-the-forecast-rests-on-one-bet Published: 2026-10-29 04:50 AM CT Summary: Bitwise projected a $1.6 million Bitcoin price for 2036 in an outlook released Oct. 28. The forecast assumes a combined gold-and-Bitcoin store-of-value market grows from $31.1 trillion to $109.8 trillion, with Bitcoin capturing 25% of it. That single category supplies about 82% of the roughly $33.6 trillion valuation behind the base target. Bitwise models 34.3% annual returns and 27.8% volatility, while JPMorgan's Oct. 19 scenarios use a 10% compound return and 55% annualized volatility. Applying 10% to Bitwise's $83,557 September reference price yields about $216,725 after ten years, a gap of roughly $1.4 million. Bitwise's bear case is $130,686 and its bull case is about $3.67 million. A CryptoSlate sensitivity check holding other contributions constant found a $50 trillion market at 25% share implies about $888,000, and a 10% share implies about $531,000. Bitcoin traded near $81,070 at press time, with a market value of about $1.6 trillion. JPMorgan questioned whether currency debasement will drive a rush into crypto, citing Bitcoin's volatility and unstable correlations as obstacles to broad portfolio inclusion. Standard Chartered moved its $500,000 forecast from 2028 to 2030 on Dec. 9, 2025, and Cathie Wood said on Nov. 6, 2025 that some shitcoin adoption could shave about $300,000 from an earlier $1.5 million bull case.
5. Understanding the Various Bitcoin Per Share Metrics URL: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/bitcoin-for-corporations/bitcoin-per-share-metrics Published: 2026-10-29 08:36 AM CT Summary: Bitcoin treasury companies get measured several ways, and the differences matter. Raw Bitcoin Per Share divides total bitcoin holdings by existing common shares, while Bitcoin Per Assumed Diluted Share divides the same holdings by a share count that assumes every warrant, convertible note and convertible preferred converts. Net Bitcoin Per Share goes further by subtracting the bitcoin equivalent of senior claims, such as debt and preferred stock, from gross holdings before dividing by shares. Net BPS moves with bitcoin's price because senior claims are denominated in dollars, so a rising bitcoin price leaves more bitcoin attributable to common shareholders and a falling price leaves less. Allard Peng argues that economic accretion should be judged by comparing Net BPS before and after a transaction at a constant bitcoin price, since issuing debt or preferred stock to buy bitcoin lifts raw BPS even when the deal carries expensive terms. It seems to me that you will need to go to the bank in person, although you can try again by phone. Someone already advised you to mention switching to another bank, they usually react to things like that.

what, dont you miss those episodes of sheer despair on minor 80% dips? coward If you have 100 btc purchased at 1000 each and it goes from 126k to 57k so what. If you have 3 btc earned by mining and it goes from 126k to 57k it matters.

It seems to me that you will need to go to the bank in person, although you can try again by phone. Someone already advised you to mention switching to another bank, they usually react to things like that. I already have an offer from the next bank, they assure that they are checking only once on transactions, and they can whitelist my exchange's wallets IBANs in advance. They even offer exposure to (paper?) BTC, too. First bank in my country that offered this, and the account is cheaper, migrating standing orders is automatic and free. I just have to re-validate the new account with the exchanges.

Bitcoin is pumping and we are likely to see $82,000 soon or more, what have you seen as the reason behind? Could the US GDP surge be the reason Bitcoin surge to $81,977 today? This is getting interesting, maybe there are other speculations that give something more different as being part of the reason to the pump or not. They even offer exposure to (paper?) BTC, too. First bank in my country that offered this, and the account is cheaper, migrating standing orders is automatic and free.
*THIS* is more likely the reason why things are suddenly more difficult and they're asking if you have someone managing your finances.

This is so vague/vacuous question to ask since... a. Does the SP500 index manage my finances? b. Does my pension fund manage at least some of my finances? c. Do AI agents manage my finances if i spawn them and allow the account(s) access? d. Does my btc wallet manage my finances? What they actually meant to say is 'is there a potentially nefarious third party that is unbeknown to us and manages your finances', but they can't put it like this, I guess.

Then the usual "You know about the risks with cryptocurrencies?". I said, i know the risks, and i'm in the space for ten years now. I would have liked to cheer her up a bit with "It's going up forever, Laura" but she was a very serious type of girl, so i kept it inside. With the future, new account i want to have transparency about how they handle crypto-affine customers, before i even think about signing up.

If USA based open an account with robinhood buy FIBT buy FBEQ small amounts then tell the bank robinhood manages and some of your accounts are based on Nasdaq+BTC the key is they do not need to know that you have 50 or 100 coins in a trezor. I do not need to know if you have 1 million or 10 million or 100 million or 1000 dollars they do not need to know that either but if you have 1 or 2 % of you wealth in RobinHood they will feed it money easy peasy. and you can wheel and deal with the robinhood account and say kraken ie cash from bank to robinhood to btc to kraken the bank never knows what is sent to kraken as robinhood acts like a cash to btc mixer
