Shorts on Bitfinex almost up by 1000 BTC today and is now at 9960 BTC in total. Shorting 1000 BTC at this price level... talk about confident bears

Overstock, Expedia, and Newegg are retail places that SELL the coins people spend, PayPal is person to person where people have to BUY bitcoin to send. Not all of those people will then sell coins, therefore there would be buying pressure where with the other there is selling.
It's not that hard to understand.

Actually most businesses that "accept bitcoin" accept through Coinbase/Bitpay, and they sell the bitoins.  If the Paypal announcement is legit (and is about bitcoin), isn't PayPal simply competing with Coinbase/Bitpay? 

If that is the case, Coinbase/Bitpay will be in trouble.

We're still in a bear market now and shorting has been the wisest option over the last months. Why changing your strategy now? If your margin calls are places accordingly, you won't miss the rocket launch!

Selling 9962 coins takes Bfx to 434.
Buying 9962 coins (closing all shorts) would empty the order book.

Now, that is a cool stat.

If I imagine being a big mighty manipulator, and I knew it was time to switch directions, I would do one last big sell-off to convince the bears we are going down even more, let the shorts pile up, then let the good times roll.

With paypal accepting Bitcoin apple has no way to compete with the low fees without introducing Bitcoin into it's payment processor. It's not even about wanting to appeal to us, or for marketing, it just makes business sense and apple is in the business of making money.
