Anyone got any feedback on this as an exchange to use ?
Is there a better/cheaper option for UK users than a combination of Transferwise and Bitstamp ?

Best regards

no problems here, my first deposit was confirmed this morning, 2 days after i sent them, from what i understood the recent problems were because
1) they switched to another bank account and some people still sent deposits to the previous one,
2) people don't put their bitstamp reference number on their transfers, so it takes longer for them to check from who is the deposit they received

Sometime Sepa transfer don't arrive on your bank's fault.
I've personally seen my transfer indulging in my bank for few day in an examining stage(?).

For the rest till today the service seems very good.

1) They claim their old bank account is still active and receiving transfers, and when I performed the transfer the old bank data was still on their site.
2) I always put bitstamp reference in transfer data, and I sent them a bank receipt where it's possible to see not only the reference, but the fact that the money was already transferred out of my account.

Conclusion: Even though many people are not having problems, many others are, so if you're making a deposit with Bitstamp, it's better to have this information into account. I particularly like their site, the way it works, and up until last week had no previous problems with them.

Buy local! Best thing ever.

maybe, but at least here on my city, the few people selling btc are charging 8%-9% fees for selling, comparing at the 0.5% fees of bitstamp and others,
there's not much to think of...

My deposit has been confirmed. Eight days have passed since the SEPA transfer. Thank you Bitstamp for solving the issue. Problems and delays can happen everywhere, but I would recommend you improve your communication in case something like this happens again.

Best regards

Bitstamp is great, I know the people behind it and the last number I got for cold storage was 85%.

One serious liability is that their bank is for the moment Unicredit in Slovenia. This is the largest Italian bank and it is one of the top 15 most highly leveraged banks in the world (probably this is why they got such a good exchange rate on their EUR/USD). Combined with fledgeling Slovenia = recipe for disaster.

However the Bitstamp team is now working hard on making the move to a well capitalized American bank that has a good reputation in the tech sector.

If you wire money to Bitstamp, be sure to deploy it rather quickly. I trust them better with my bitcoins than with my euro's for the moment. (but don't leave your bitcoins sit idle with any exchange, use a secure offline wallet.
