Baroness Thatcher did not start the war over the Falklands.

She did, however, finish it.   Cool

Quote
The Falklands War began on Friday 2 April 1982, when Argentine forces invaded and occupied the Falkland Islands and South Georgia.

In doing so the Galtieri government hoped to mobilise Argentines' long-standing patriotic feelings towards the islands and thus divert public attention from the country's chronic economic problems and the regime's ongoing human rights violations.

The British government dispatched a naval task force to engage the Argentine Navy and Air Force, and retake the islands by amphibious assault.

The interesting thing I got from the crappy movie they did about her was to note that trying to force everyone to pay the same tax rate is political suicide.

That pretty much shows that we will continuously slip further and further into tyranny of the people.

The flat tax is very popular in Russia.  Of course Putin doesn't have to put up with the BBC poofs and Trots who continuously lambasted Thatcher.

That's because Russians, unlike Britons, have already tried fully embracing socialism and found it not to their liking.   Wink

That may be the only way we get freedom in America.

A flat tax rate would do wonders for America.  A progressive tax rate just means, the more successful you are, the more you'll be punished.

Except that the smaller your check at the end of the week, the more significant each percentage point gets.

Prior to 1913, the US government ran on nothing but excise and some limited sales taxes. Did you know they actually avoided limiting income tax to 4%, because they were concerned that it would rapidly reach that unthinkable number?

We're soaking in it!

Yes it would.  A flat tax would be a sea change, an outright repudiation of progressivism, because the progressive income tax is (next to abortion) the Trots' and Fabian's highest sacrament.

Mrykul is right about the slippery slope and conflict of interest, but even small steps on the road back to equality under the law are important.

A flat tax isn't a permanent solution to the flaws of man (necessitating eternal vigilance and all that), but at least it's less inequitable than the status quo.

Speaking of which, I'm 15% (according to my Kindle) through Anarchy, State, and Utopia, and I've already spotted one problem. It's like he's never heard of arbitration, and just assumes that all conflicts between justice providers would be settled violently.

A flat tax rate would do wonders for America.  A progressive tax rate just means, the more successful you are, the more you'll be punished.

The ideal flat tax income rate is zero.  That's exactly what it was up until 1913, and then they knew a constitutional amendment was necessary.  Even so, the Supreme Court has twice ruled that the amendment did not alter the definition of "taxpayer", which up until that time included foreign nationals doing business in the United States, and citizens of one state working in another.  You wouldn't know it by how such events unfold these days, but according to legal history, a natural born citizen working for a labor wage within his state of residence is exempt from federal income taxation.

Not that I'm stupid enough to argue that point on my own tax forms.

"The powers of financial capitalism had another far-reaching aim, nothing less than to create a world system of financial control in private hands able to dominate the political system of each country and the economy of the world as a whole. This system was to be controlled in a feudalist fashion by the central banks of the world acting in concert, by secret agreements arrived at in frequent meetings and conferences. The apex of the systems was to be the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland, a private bank owned and controlled by the world's central banks which were themselves private corporations. Each central bank...sought to dominate its government by its ability to control Treasury loans, to manipulate foreign exchanges, to influence the level of economic activity in the country, and to influence cooperative politicians by subsequent economic rewards in the business world."
