I do like the hardcore thread too btw. It's a nice Readers' Digest version for when I really want to see what's going on. People just have to have an outlet like this thread for their trollish, emotional urges, you know?

Zombie zone is when it actually moves the donchian channel beyond of where it fell from. This is the first *real* bounce in a sense that it could show up on the daily chart. Also watch this video and tell me it doesn't describe what is happening. http://www.investopedia.com/video/play/dead-cat-bounce/

At 0.03% transaction fee MtGox reportedly earned 200-300k during January 2013 and 700k already during April.
It seems to occur only during price decreases that the timelag becomes so large a shutdown is enacted.
It is important to BTC overall survival that MtGox is operating honestly and that BTC owners and traders know it is.

0.03%? You mean 0.3, right? Does that mean the earnings listed are also off by a factor of 10? (Too lazy to find the numbers myself...)

BTW, anyone notice how Mt.Gox's fee percentage is based on your trade volume... in BTC! It's rather a different thing to trade, say, 2000 BTC a month now than a couple of months ago.

one point yesterday we were 35k btc down to $50 and 44k up to $100 = 79k btc right now we are 152k down to $50 and 42k up to $100 = 194k btc
so pressure building and building and something has to give.

in other news: today i actually had to euthanize a cat because of an acute emphysema. this was terrible, that poor thing was covered in its coughed out blood, mixed with urine.
therefore, please don't make jokes about dead cats and bouncing. you have no idea what you are asking for, or the floor cleaning afterwards …

I am new to watching markets of any kind so please forgive the n00b nature of this question.
During the last big run I noticed that there were constantly big minute to minute swings in the price, by big I mean it seemed to fluctuate up and down 5, 10, or even 15 dollars at a time before it would shoot up another 20. Since the "crash" I have noticed that the highs and lows are a lot closer together, there was a little bit of 5-10 dollar fluctuation right after the recovery from the 50 dollar low, but it has gotten to the point where the ticker only varies by 2 to 3 dollars at most. My gut tells me that this is a good sign, but I wonder if it really is and what does it mean exactly.
Thanks!

what happened to the old thread?
I was looking forward to page 1337
adam closed it down and made a new one with tight rules, so I made this one with no rules to try to keep the loungy spirit. It's a free market, so let's see which one get's to 1337 first You stole my lounge idea altho I will say you capitalized on adam's name change to "hardcore" quite well by using the title "softcore", tip of the hat Thanks for both tip of hat and lounge idea.

AWESOME! have a tea and cookie. feel right at home! EDIT: I think you're right with the projection. At least in principle (the timing might be off, not sure). What makes me think that? The huge orderbook. Let's discuss two options: 1.) we're going down: if the price tanks and there is another panic the bids will get filled and more bids will appear. People like rpietila who had their buying point set too low ($32-$50) for the last drop will get satisfied. That's much USD and it's even more BTC (compared to what happened above $50), so a lot of coins will change hands. (I sincerely hope they come from old-timers and traders, not people who got in above and sell at a loss). 2.) we're going up: if we go back to sustained rally mode the USD is going to chase the price up and many of the asks are going to be pulled or moved. I think 2.) will happen. Even if 1.) happens, 2.) will happen afterwards. Why do I think that: because bitcoin is fundamentally a good idea and people know it. The USD holders want in and the BTC holders really are just plagued by fear but want more BTC, too. Bold prediction: these are cheap coins right now and price wont stay at $90 for long.

True there were only a couple of swing trade opportunities yesterday. One day these movements will be a thing of the past and would be expected of a mature online currency. At the extremes, price movements will be of a much larger percentage. Long periods of sideways movement are consolidation and on the run-up to the high were generally always "fuel for the rocket". It will be interesting to see if this happens again or whether the next general trend is upwards but cautious. But ultimately, these things as with everything do move in cycles!

Yeah I checked that too.
I tried it, it allowed my unfunded order and showed under Open Orders but it didn't appear on the order book at Clark Moody.
Edit: I put a Bid in I don't have enough cash to fund, the order appeared only to the amount of cash I DO have.

It was always like that. Otherwise you could too easily manipulate the depth charts. It means that MtGox has not yet run the update. almost everyone will agree to " if 1.) happens, 2.) will happen afterwards " this is why its going to recover fast and, keep fucking going!

All other things being equal (which they're not as has been suggested) one should expect fluctuations to be of half the dollar value.

It had a head-start. This one is more spammable and less pruned... Since the other one is equally non-moderated and free as the good ol' thread, why start a new one? the op of hardcore thread say this: Wall Observer A free service brought to you by the bitcoin communityWhenever there is a significant change in market depth, please update this thread with a new depth chart, and a good price chart with some TA is also welcome, feel free to comment on these if you have something to worth contributing, ( if your post is not at all TA it will be deleted ) Posting guild lines: Please lets keep this thread clean. ( I will be removing any off topic posts ) Do not post random comments on this thread, unless it is directly related to the last wall update (ex. The 20K ask was was NOT sold into, it was removed after being tested) When you post a chart please use bitcoincharts.com, mtgoxlive.com, btccharts.com or bitcoinity.com
as requested, i have started a new thread. this thread is now a self-moderated topic. I will try and keep this thread clean, with only facts, current trends, past price movements, depth charts, etc. I promise to not delete post simply because i do not agree with the bearish TA. [...] the rules of this thread is an attempt to keep this thread from having +1000 post when price is doing big moves, and instead relay important indicators during critical moments. [...] just don't be posting about your "FEELINGS" and you won't get delete. So it's quite different from this one (adams thread is the tracker, useful for keeping up-to-date when moves happen. It's moderated and has rules. This one is more of a lounge. all chatter allowed, no rules except forum rules apply) and I currently think both threads have valid raison d'être. I enjoyed have one go-to place, but maybe it really does make sense to fork. Let's just see how it plays out.

Human mind isn't logical... Or maybe I'm just wrong here...

https://www.facebook.com/MtGox/posts/458663370884742"UPDATE: We are waiting for technical confirmation, but it appears to be another strong DDos attack. We are attacked daily, but very soon we will be transitioning to a better service that will be a major improvement. Just getting ready for implementation." I know nothing of the server architecture but it must be that the front-end handles the trade requests and pipes them to the trade server with no external IP. So with the DDoSers (that's an appropriate name in my flavour of English) unable to lag trades, they are now attempting to deny access to trading for most people. I did get a trade in earlier but it was incredibly slow whole Mt Gox showed no lag officially. New week, new tactics.

The attackers can only gain trade-wise when the price moves. With no trading ability how are people supposed to panic-sell? Another growing pain Mt Gox.

This is not some pseudoeconomic post-modern Libertarian cult, it's an un-led, crowd-sourced mega startup organized around mutual self-interest where problems, whether of the theoretical or purely practical variety, are treated as temporary and, ultimately, solvable. Censorship of e-gold was easy. Censorship of Bitcoin will be… entertaining.

In that sense wouldn't it be bad to use a self-moderated thread for this purpose? I don't want to bash adams thread, couldn't care less where we hang out, but generally speaking, could that become a problem at some point?

I can't see the harm if he likes to have a civilized thread here he should try. It's a fight against the windmills imo, the majority of this whole forum is filled with it and I don't think this will change any time soon. It was just that during the end the thread got the brunt of it, for the better or worse.

From all the panic buying going on right now, I'm not sure we're going to take it any easier at all this time around.

Permabears will be screaming victory shouts of a dead cat bounce and bulltrap from the moment it starts right till the moment it starts climbing again. Ha. Unless of course they are right and it falls. But it certainly isn't looking like that will be the case.

Now you are witnessing the cashing out of all the newbs buying at 100+. I knew they would choose to sell at 100 to minimize losses. After this we're going straight up to at least 120.

Yeah anyone someone coin dumps driving the price down, that's a great time to buy back in. Which is why this rally recovers so quickly. There's no panic sellers left, just day traders looking to get back in.

Must say I'm impressed. This is a kick in the teeth for the perma-bears and detractors.
Profit-taking seems to be moderate - too much of a risk of missing out on the continued rise.
A bottom of 5x the value from the start of the year - not quite zero eh?!

$111 - great price to buy. Looking quite oversold in the short-term.
After being froze out in a USD position by BitFloor I've been reduced to placing orders on coinbase and trying to predict the market over the next five days. Obviously my purchase points have risen over the last few days, including a small buy of 10 at $129 this morning. I ain't even mad about that one, I have a feeling that we will be above $129 in five days. Since this is the softcore lounge my analysis is based on nothing but that feeling. It's hard not to buy more in the 1-teens, but I'm still trying to pace myself and do a bit of dollar coast averaging until my verification at various exchanges clears.

just listening to brother john fs newest bitcoin report ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFhsNUV-zjU) he's quite bullish and explains bitcoin doesn't look like a crashed bear market. After explaining how "resistance" technical indicator works, he says: ...and it's blue skies ahead, that's why you see the price racing they way it is. When you look at the overhead resistance we really don't have that much. We have people from back in here [points to graph, pre-high around $135] to up here [points to all-time-high] that are sitting at a loss still. But the volume at which they got in is not nearly as much as the volume we've already overcome [shows post-ath selloff area below $135 with high volume].
This does not look to me like a crash. A crashed market, as Jessie Livermore once said who's the father of all technical trading, when you have a bear market and you have the dead bodies or a dead cat bounce, in a true bear market, these dead bodies have to stay down for a long time to make sure they're really dead. That's what you have in a true bear market... it just goes down and then it stays down for a looooong time.
I must say everywhere I look are bullish signs. The technical bear-talk I just read in lucif thread doesn't impress me much.

My current analysis:
We have cleared strong resistance, are consolidating on low and falling volume (triangle) and will go up soonish.

Im struck by the amount of support shown on the order book, in the last few days. And for the record, the levels of next support and resistance, i am looking at, are $90 and $190 respectively.

I am getting bummed about this one dying off. I really liked the original combined hardcore/softcore thread. Separating the two just seems wrong. I would feel too dirty posting in the new hardcore thread.

I hereby declare this thread dead.
Why did we have to change it - why not just start a new WOMT thread in the old vein?
Though I see plenty of random graphics and all the other stuff over the 'hardcore' thread which made the old thread less dry.

adam seems to not adhere to his own rules in the hardcore thread, so I think we can use it like the old one now.

If you don't like the price of bitcoin, wait a week. How 'bout those sub-100 coins, eh? Here's to buying coins under my favorite Psychological Barrier! *clink*

hey goat, let's hang out a bit and talk trash... I've thought about something... low volatility leads to people on the forums (especially speculation subforum) getting bored and... - ..go outside and maybe talk to newbs about bitcoin
- ..do actual work on bitcoin-related projects
- ..sell all their crypto
- ..try pump&dump on some alts

there is massive volume traded, just no longer on the exchanges. who in their right mind would trust gox evar? also us exchanges? our govt is not even operating.... well to your point however yes this is a "slow" time for btc and yes this forces people to go out and do things. there is not a massive media hype now but everyone knows of btc. if you told people about btc two years ago they now know why you have that R8. i was always into an alt. im a huge huge LTC guy but thats is cuz it was the first fair alt out there. now there are 100s of alts, so many i dont even know! we do need a back up or two incase btc forks itself again but 100s? man... but anyway, free market for the win! I agree altcoins are a good thing. I also agree LTC was the first fair one and it seems to be managed well. PrimeCoin (XPM) also stands out because it's the first one with PoW that actually does something (incentivise math research). A lot of the other alts are essentially ponzis, of course and I don't even monitor that market. Maybe one will have even more useful proof-of-work function or some other substantial improvement. The inventors and early investors on that one would make a ton, I guess. As you say: free market ftw! side-note: bought some nice-looking silver coins (the ones with the Bitcoin logo) from NewLiberty in Amsterdam. Pretty well-done coins, I must say. The guy has his heart and mind in the right place, too.
