I have just started mining litecoin on my AMD graphics card to learn about how it is done. Sometimes my hash rate is displayed and i get shares and sometimes it is 0 even though it shows that the miner is active Huh. Is this normal? If not can somebody tell me how to fix it?

It's normal. Pools calculate hashrate based on shares submitted. Miner calculations are much more precise Wink

The miner reports hashrate based on individual shares, the pool is usually a 5 minute average.
If you submit no shares in 5 minutes the pool will report 0. This can happen if th edifficulty is
too high. Look at the pool instructions to see if they have low diff port, or allow diff to be specified.

Diff too high is a problem as a lot of hash goes stale and is thrown away. There should be a few shares
every minute.

In some algorithms, like scrypt, the diff is elevated due to the dominance of ASIC miners. It makes it
very hard for a GPU to comptete.

You are wasting your hardware and power on an ASIC-algo and a very high-share-diff pool , just switch to zcash or etherum or monero ....alot of options (gpu minable) and get a reward for your work.
