nothing is wrong with "bitcoin" as a name of cryptocurrency. changing its name would make a few people confused. besides, keeping something original is good.

but I agree with this one.

a few people out there think that bitcoin is for criminals. I think it should be fixed.

Bitcoin is simple, this explains well what it is. How people see it does not come from the name or the logo for me, but only how medias cover it. Nothing we can do to change this. And imagine how painly it would be to all agree.

Do you think Bitcoin needs some Rebranding?

First off, the name is a bit confusing? - Most people see the name and associate it with some physical coin. The media is also not helping with this

Who cares what people think about bitcoin in this case and to rebrand.
If bitcoin would be rebranded then people would be confused (more than they are now if you think so)

I don't think we should rebrand it, bitcoin is good the way it is right now. For sure, we need to scale the network with Segwit or other solutions to be able to handle transactions more rapidly.

Do you think Bitcoin needs some Rebranding?

Rebranding is the creation of a new look and feel for an established product or company. The usual goal of rebranding is to influence a customer's perception about a product or service or the company overall by revitalizing the brand and making it seem more modern and relevant to the customer's needs.

First off, the name is a bit confusing? - Most people see the name and associate it with some physical coin. The media is also not helping with this

perception, because with every article about Bitcoin, pictures are shown of physical Casascius bitcoins.

The other aspect of Bitcoin that can be rebranded is it's bad reputation that has been built up and shilled up ..over years.

Every company gets to a point where they need to re-think their original goals and future plans... Why not Bitcoin? We have come a long way

since 2009 and making small changes will help us to take this into a new future, without the baggage of the past.  Wink

What would the pro's and cons of this be, and also the impact?

Let's discuss.  Grin

Bitcoin isn't even yours. Why are you even attempting to make it look like it's you that owns it? That is just outrageous.

Why would there be people on this forum calling Bitcoin something else just bringing in another name for the coin so they could confuse the people that are just getting used to it. If you really want to make a coin of your own then you should just do an Altcoin and you will have your own "Rebranded" coin.

Have fun promoting it, you might not have anyone interested in it.

Before do ReBrand, confirmation issue should be fixed first.
ReBranding might be a good strategy for a company, however it couldn't be applied on bitcoin, the simple reason why do bitcoin shouldn't be ReBrand is because "bitcoin"is perfect, moreover changing it's name is not easy as we thought since bitcoin is decentralization and i truly believe that community will not do this kind of thing.

Re-branding bitcoin will result in an Alt coin. Bitcoin will remain bitcoin.

By the way, who are the we in Should we ReBrand Bitcoin?
Well i'm asking the same question.

No need to rebrand it at all, everything we have right now is fine for the most part and a majority of public opinion shifts easily when some good news comes out. A majority of people I talk do don't have any sort of connection between Bitcoin and criminals anymore, and as such I simply see no reason for it at this point.

There would also have to be a huge campaign to even entertain any hopes of rebranding Bitcoin.

Bitcoin can't really be a brand.  It's not like there are going to be TV adverts talking about checking out this decentralised currency because no one makes a profit from it.  That said, it could be renamed and could
have a new logo, but there isn't really a simple name which helps people understand what Bitcoin is. "Decentralised cryptocurrency"?

Regardless, Bitcoin is probably best placed in terms of brand compared to coins which have names that stop mattering after a year or so, such as Dogecoin or Pepecash or whatever.

What about the future? If the price goes to $10,000 in 20 or 30 years? Another rebrand?

Sure.

Why not?

Rebranding something that has not even made a mark could be a bad move. It would be like starting over and reintroducing it in a new way. And even if rebranding is to be considered, there will be nobody in particular who will lead such an effort to do so.

Rebranding bitcoin is not the best thing to do. The perfect thing to do instead of rebranding is making good promotions. Without promotion bitcoin will not reach the mainstream. Since we have no funds to do the promotion like printing leaflets and others the best thing we can do is to share it to our friends and to people near us. If all of us can make it the bitcoin market will become huge and it will attract big merchants and businessman to accept bitcoin in exchange for their goods and services.

Bitcoin is a good brand, and it is well positioned in the mind of millions. Perhaps the only change that I would promote would be the adaptation of the word "bitcoin" to the worth of current 0.01 btc, because in real life it is unusual to carry out ordinary transactions of $1000 dollars, but 0.01 ($10 current dollars) seems a perfect amount to be named "bitcoin".

Whoops, if everyone is saying NO, I think I will swap hats and say Yes. Gosh, to motivate this answer I would think that a rebranding would give us a fresh start. Instead of Bitcoin, we might consider calling it SatCoin for instance to honor the creator of this technology. SatCoin goes better with Satoshis than Bitcoin with Satoshis. ^smile^

The negative side of this will be the complexity and financial disruption this might cause for people that designed their business around the name Bitcoin. < Example : Bitcointalk.org would need to change to SatCointalk.org >

To come to think of it, this might not be such a good idea, how do I change my vote. ^smile^

Rebranding is necessary for a product or service which is not getting popular even after several promotion methods. In some cases rebranding is done when the product or service gets degradation in value or to overcome loss. With bitcoin just with the users its getting spread and popularity and the accessibility is increasing. So no need of rebranding is required for further growth.

Rebranding can also go the other way, some artist have changed their image in order to reinvent themselves only to discover the public does not even recognize them and the change of image has a negative effect.

maybe "Re-branding" is not the best word for it.
because it is mostly about the perception that people have of bitcoin not what bitcoin really is. we need to change that.
and it takes a long time, specially if something has wrongfully became common among people no matter how wrong or how big/small it is.

Weak hands have been complaining about missing out ever since bitcoin was $1 and never buy the dip.
Whales are those who keep buying the dip.

I think there is no need of reBranding bitcoin at this time as we have many established resources to build awareness about bitcoin. Since bitcoin is, not a company or a product but the invention, I would personally like to present it to someone in its natural way because any attempt to give artificial effect would not work in the favour of bitcoin. However offering innovative services using bitcoin under any brand (personal brand) is a good idea.
