There are many ways to describe the purpose of human beings whether the world you ask about is the entire universe or simply this planet.
we are in this world because we are meant to fullfil a promise in the world not be we choose to but because there are things that are needed to be done. for example why do you help people?

Because our other planet went to shit and god is really ourselves before they traveled to other planets to check if they were sustainable, which is why burning bushes and weird stuff like that only happend a long time ago   And now all we do is beat our meat and mine for crypto while waiting for the next world war and apocalypse. Then we move on to the next planet in this huge universe. The few of us that are important enough and survive the crash landing  

Then why where there no technology in the earlier years you ask? Earth probably didn't seem safe enough to send the top of the line people and technology, so they sent it somewhere else where they survived? died? idk
