I am unable to purchase Bitcoin myself and am limited to mining altcoins for it. How much I'd like to even have just one BTC from this forum full of private keys right now so I can be in the 1 BTC club 20 years from now
I don't believe multiple keys would just be on a single forum page but if they really are a bunch of bitcoin wallets from people who bought them for under a dollar for shits and giggles (like 17k BTC for a pizza) than I am very sure the owners completely forgot about them.
1 BTC ain't be enought. That's fairy tale myths. We will more likely see today's level more or less. Even a dive back into the fivehundred bucks area is possible, but not really tragic. |

You found the keys to a car. Can you take the car? Is it legal? Don't be an idiot. The money is yours. It is not illegal to transfer bitcoin if you have the key to do it. Having the key means it is your bitcoin. Take it and transfer it to another address before another key holder does that. Not really, what i would do is to donate 39 BTC to people who needs it. Like donating to projects everyone use, but no one donates to, like UNOMP, BCOIN, and many others. I would keep 1 BTC as a reward for fair distributing the funds. But the question is, how did you found a private key in a forum, with 40BTC in the wallet ? normally as it is existing since 2011, it should have been aleready emptied. Yeah I really doubt that you would do that if you were the person with access to over 40 thousand US dollars. People always say that they will donate money if they got it, but when they manage to get that money,they just spend the money for themselves. Maybe you should make a more realistic goal like maybe donating 1-5 Bitcoin to those things. I would say that if you have access to that 40 Bitcoin, then you should just take it, if you don't, someone else might and they might not be the actual owners. And it is not like you are going to get caught for taking that money. |

He might found a wallet with 40 btc while searching the block chain and nothing strange about that as it is a open source and you can very well see each and every transactions.The OP never said he has the private key nor does he have the skills to hack one,if he could he would have never asked about it in the first place.  What ever it may be if he is planning to hack the wallet,it is a really bad thing no matter how old the wallet is. |

To me you should not take it as it looked like thief to me. The owner of the wallet may still has the key and keep his or her 40btc as a life saving. Yeah. Finding a private key with a huge amount of money on the forum is very impossible to happened even if it's last transaction is on 2011. It is very obvious that OP is just trolling out here considering that he is newbie and found a very old private key on the forum. |

If you found someone's private key, you could get the coins but it would be stealing. That could be someone's savings that they are holding for retirement. I would suggest leaving them alone.

Its not illegal, you have a key thats mean you get full right to use that wallet so the amount of 40BTC is your so just use them all. Or you want to share with somebody is ok. The big question here is how can you get that key in the forum? and the last transaction was 2011 is very weird. Or maybe you get your lucky or after you doing something meaningful so thats a reward |

If you notice all the scammers are coming back now (with high rise in btc price! ) under their different previous accounts  to do make it look they are doing valid deals with themselves to make you out they weren't scammers in the first place.
