I've a mobo Z87-Deluxe QUAD from Asus. It features 7 pci-express slots and also has following onboard features that is not available on many other mobos:

Thunderbolt
Wifi
Bluetooth

Initially I've configured all slots as x1 and was able to use 5 gpus after disabling ob sound, ob lan, ob bluetooth and thunderbolt.
Later, I tried to add 6th gpu and somehow lights on on my mobo started blinking. I realized that something was not right so decided to disconnect 6th gpu again. Just after powering on system, it displayed following message:

"The memory address is insufficient due to Intel Thunderbolt resource consumption. The onboard Thunderbolt is now disabled for better system resource allocation. Strongly suggest to press F1 to enter BIOS setup and manually disable unused I/O peripheral controllers. Press F1 to Run SETUP"

Notice that Thunderbolt was already disabled before connecting 6th gpu and now BIOS says it is now disabled again. So system must have reset the BIOS upon connecting 6th gpu.

I wanted to see if I could use Wi-Fi instead of LAN (due to a some reason)

To overcome this issue, I've added another 8gb memory stick (totaling ram to 16gb) which didn't change outcome. But I haven't tested disabling onboard wifi and using LAN yet as my goal is not that one.
Any ideas?
Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

Wifi sucks to mine.  If this means five cards and use lan so be it.
