With ZCash having such a large funding from the founder's reward for marketing and development, why try running a "community" funded coin?

What makes Zencash have a better chance and standout from the rest of the crowd of privacy coins?

Monero as a community funded coin is a huge exception due to the innovative technology behind it, but I really want to know what Zencash wants to do differently.

This isn't a troll post, but more of a genuine question to ask. Thank you.

This is very good question. Current difference in ZCash vs ZenCash technology is those 2 major things. What is the strategy after 23May? Time after time do same incremental changes than ZCash but with own "Zen flavour"? Or take completely different path aiming where? Is there any concrete example we can chew on what can we expect from Zen?
On May 23rd, the Zclassic network will execute a purposeful divergence into two blockchains; Zclassic and the newly formed Zen network. Zclassic will retain its original functionality and feature set but the Zen network will be adapted to include segregated witness (segwit) support and additional cryptographic technologies.

It's not correct, on May 23 will be public launch of ZEN and somewhere on 29 April ZCL will be forked in ZCL and ZEN.
From OP:
Anyone who holds Zclassic prior to block 100,000 (somewhere around April 29, 2017) will be given a 1:1 credit of Zen. This is a result of the Zen genesis originating from the Zclassic blockchain.

Zen will have a public launch event in NYC on May 23rd, 2017 to coincide with Consensus 2017. More details will be released soon.
-------
BTW, somewhere in the thread I saw a fork date was 23 or 24 of April, so can someone clarify it?

From what I've heard the white paper should be ready in a few days/weeks then I guess we will have all the details concerning node principally, what's sure it will be democratic and it will not request a ton of ZEN to vote, with a DAO type of layer, it should be really interesting. Especially because I think the distribution is very fair, anyone knows what will happen for months, so no surprise get ZCL before complaining the price is too expansive or something like that.

ZenCash please provide detailed info about setting up a verified node. These should be made available to the community, not taken up by insiders and devs........which has happened to far too many coins.
Should have that information posted this week. It is not going to be too much different than setting up a zclassic node. Will also need a valid certificate, hold 42 Zen on the node, and be able to send a shielded transaction every few minutes to verify the Secure Node is meeting requirements and keep it active in payment queue.

Practice right now by setting up a zclassic node, getting a cert from letsencrypt, and receiving and sending z_transaction on the node. You should be able to do this on a $5 per month VPS by using swap to get memory above 4GB.

It's going to be WAY different to running a Zclassic / Zcash / Zdash node.

Current coins install node routine :- run a home computer / Docker image / server / vps (install a 'nix flavour following u-tube vids); learn minimal amount of 'nix command line; use apt-get and build a couple of times; put some text in some hidden .conf files; job done. Google is your friend - everything you need to know is cut/paste-able - you can even set up a home pool in a day.

Zen masternode - OK, so I have a domain name which Certbot will put a certificate on from letsencrypt - Tick - job done? ...no

Now I need to learn how to put the node behind a reverse proxy to ensure the node traffic traverses the ssl and not bypass it (Google is not your friend because it now expects you to know a LOT more about 'nix, web-servers, coding and networking and most of the guides expect non-free software to 'make it easy'). There is more information on Google about how to make nodes traverse TOR sockets than run an SSL protected node through a reverse proxy.

Oh, and I need to know how to cron script to ensure a transaction is sent between two z-addresses (at a cost of 0.0002 per transaction) every 100 blocks or so?

Come on Zen Dev's, if you want a Node to meet requirements and jump hoops - provide a coded node that does it for your users straight from the git-pull, not a bunch of Linux style man pages that expect a few years of 'nix experience to follow.

Look at your Forum posters - how many are asking about windows wallets and how do you set up a basic node??

About the full nodes, do you need to reserve an min amount of Zen? Like 1000 Dash for a masternode?

42 Zen and security hoops to jump through (how difficult these are is yet to be seen).

I hate these pseudo-PoS systems. When funds are locked in masternodes or just for staking the issue is less liquidity, the advantage of pure PoW is liquidity.

What if you have 100 zen, it is enough for 2 masternodes but what about the last 16?

How many zen cash will be there in total? Is it same as zclassic or more ? Also zclassic and zen seem basically the same idea but a way to raise funds to further development automatically through mining rewards right?

This information is incorrect. There is nothing happening at block 100,000.

There is still time for all the details and specifics for anyone who is interested. Thank you to everyone who is telling the zencash team what to do - all suggestions are helpful and appreciated by the team.

Zen will not split or fork from zclassic until May 23. There will be more information and details coming out in the next few weeks, and there is a lot of work being done behind the scenes. We are not asking for anyone to join an ICO, not asking for any funds or investment, just letting you all know what we are doing.

We would still love to have people help and contribute to the project. Look at the official sites of https://zencash.io, https://wiki.zencash.io, https://blog.zencash.io, and join the slack and ask questions at https://slackinvite.zencash.io/

what about visiting the official web sites? It will split on the 23rd in May and blocks mined up to 100 thousand (in a week or so) will receive the same amount of ZEN coins. In a word, on the 23rd of may you'll receive in ZEN coins the coins you owned that were mined prior to block 100 thousand

I agree can we get a simple node setup or some how to's with commands it's my busy time I start early in the am and work late I don't have time to practice setting up nodes or go to coding school
