Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

Isn't it recommended to store wallets on a USB stick? What is the absolute best security to prevent theft of litecoin? Thanks

Encrypt your wallet, and hope you don't have a key logger active somewhere.

If you're really paranoid about keyloggers, both Windows and Kaspersky supply virtual on-screen keyboards to help defeat them. KIS also comes with some kind of anti-screen-dump feature that blocks screen captures by unauthorised applications (trojans, viruses).

The above is handy but of course not a substitute for a proper cold wallet for safe storage of large troves of BTC.

OP, let me ask you something. Since you're a scammer now, I'm curious to know if you actually wrote the Trojan Wallet Stealer proggy? Did you?

Don't think so. He was running GLBSE before abruptly closing and I think not everyone got their funds back: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/GLBSE

Yeah, that's the joke dude. He was also a mod for a while. This is part of my little protest against the new activity system. I'm going to necro all the incredible fuck ups from hero members in the past and bring them forward.

Hi everyone,

I just had a few btc stolen from my account on MtGox. I assume it's not possible to get them back .. but what does that hack mean for the rest of my computer? Should I be worried about accessing other sites, mail, facebook, Online banking (!) ??

Is there a virus on my computer? I'm using a mac, so if yes what should I best do against it?

thanks in advance everyone

Many wallet-stealing trojans exist. These trojans are viruses that steal your BTC. If your BTC is stolen, there is effectively zero chance of getting it back.

Worse yet, there are plenty of script kiddies and scammers that are going to be trying to get you to download and install it.

Don't install anything linked to on this forum, unless it's been found to be legit by someone with a good reputation. Assume everything is an attempt to steal your wallet.

You should also encrypt your wallet when not in use. In Bitcoin-Qt, click Settings in the menu bar and then click "Encrypt Wallet". Make sure to use a strong passphrase, but don't forget it! If you forget the passphrase, you will lose all your BTC. Other encryption methods exist, but are more complicated.

You have been warned. Be safe!

Nefario

thanks you!

You had two factor authentication for MtGox?

I guess your Online banking has two factor authentication for sending funds so you should be safe here for now

Reinstaling OS could be done if not too much trouble for you

No 2-factor authentification... just started that now
