There will always be problem with "things".. I want bitcoin to stay untracable.  Bitcoin isn't God's currency.. there will always be problems, however we have to work collectively to "fuckup" whatever and whomever is trying to destroy our cyber economy.  I propose anyone who can hack, or "good at computers" should join forces and destroy this threat.  This is the closest thing we have to freedom!

I'm with you 100% on this. There are always persons unkown trying to wreak havoc.

We as a community need to start being more proactive against these types of attacks. Maybe a large migration to Ubuntu clients would help?

I think windows should still be okay for the most part, as long as there's an offline backup kept. I wonder about the security of having a dual-boot computer with the wallet held in the linux filesystem.

I find it prudent to have bitcoin running in a clean VM of linux which is shut down when not in use both for my personal use and for the longterm storage of money collected by BitcoinONE.

I bet that if all these people spent their time on useful stuff instead of writing viruses they could actually do some great things.

Good grief,

I've spend time this morning reading up on bitcoins. I like it, however; lets say I wanted to start an online business that receives bitcoins almost exclusively. According to to some here it would be a waste of time!

Reading statements like "avoid window OS, minimize online activity, use only ethernet cable, use ease of access keyboard, get a second PC" have me thinking this way

WTF!

There is a (new?) trojan wallet stealer out in the wild ATM.

Plenty of script kiddies and scammers are going to be trying to get you to download and install it, what's more they'll be putting posts to do so (using lies obviously).

Don't install anything linked to on this forum, unless it's been found by someone with a good reputation to be legit. Assume everything is an attempt to steal your wallet.

You should also encrypt your wallet when not in use.

Here is a portable apps version http://www.freeotfe.org/downloads/FreeOTFEExplorer_3_51.paf.exe

You have been warned.

How do I know that link isnt to the trojan?

my wallet is running on a macbook pro so is safe! thanks god Smiley

As a software developer focusing on web stuff, more and more of my peers are using Apple products to do their work. The more familiar the developer pool is with the MB, the more malware/trojans/viruses will come out specifically for that. Even if marketshare remains fixed. iOS development has really increased this in particular.

Assuming you're safe because of one fact, is a bad security practice. No one is 100% safe in computing, just like in life. It's all about risk REDUCTION.

Given how much of a hassle it is to keep one's wallet file secure, it's no surprise that many people keep their coins in online wallets (where they're likely in even bigger danger).
