If you're on windows, you should run everything in sandboxie that's not 100% trusted, and add your bitcoin wallet location in Resource Access->File Access->Blocked Access along with your firefox/chrome profiles if you haven't already, that'll prevent anything from accessing the directories/files in there, giving you a nice sense of security should you run any sort of stealer, whether password stealer, or wallet stealer

or do you mean, to block access to that directory to programs running inside sandboxie?

also, is it a good idea to run your miner from within box?
i have downloaded a few (guiminer20010107 & cgminer some version) from these forums that scanned as malware by comodo @unknownmalware1 so i guess that's a great idea to run it boxed?

also for browsing, can chrome's sandbox be trusted, or double box it with sandboxie too

I'd say, if you have a lot of Bitcoins you should have them in a paper wallet. That's the only really safe way.

The option to place images in your signature has been disabled but, if you had an image before that was implemented, they'll stay until you make any changes at all to your signature in your profile. Sort of a grandfather clause technicality.

I am more worried about a Stuxnet style virus created by a state that searches out bitcoin wallets and deletes them.  Don't forget to not only encrypt your wallet, but also set the access permissions.

Guys, just use trusted online wallets as instawallet, i never use the bitcoin app or really for small amounts. Just have a .txt file with all your wallets in it and you'll never worry again !

That won't save you from a Trojan wallet stealer, but if you start thinking about BTC as cash, it's a start.

Use the HowTo to create a "savings" BTC wallet that is not online. Send larger amounts of BTC to that. Of course once you access that savings account you have to go online to spend it at some point. But if you are in hoarder mode, or have access to enough BTC that would hurt to lose, you should think about security.

If that savings wallet is on a usb distribution like LinuxCoin and only ever accessed for "banking transactions" you are that much safer.

Hardware failure on an not-backed-up wallet is a more likely outcome.
