Make sure you back up your wallet regularly! Unlike a bank account, nobody can help you if you lose access to your BTC.

I have a small list of utilities I use in my windows systems: Its been said before. NEVER TRUST LINKS IN THIS FORUM. ESP FROM NOOBS LIKE ME EnCryption: TruCrypt - http://www.truecrypt.org/ - The Best Free open-source disk encryption software for Windows 7/Vista/XP, Mac OS X, and Linux AES Crypt - http://www.aescrypt.com/ - AES Crypt is a file encryption software product available on several operating systems that uses the industry standard Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) to easily and securely encrypt files. Simply right-click to encrypt/decrypt. Utilities: Eraser 5.3 - http://oldversion.com/download-Eraser-5.3.html - http://www.tolvanen.com/eraser/Eraser is a secure data removal tool, which allows you to remove sensitive data from your hard drive by overwriting it with carefully selected patterns. Use it when "delete" just won't do. SandBoxie - http://www.sandboxie.com/ - Sandboxie runs your programs in an isolated space which prevents them from making permanent changes to other programs and data in your computer. Run your web browsers "sandboxed" and rogue internet viruses are stopped before they can infect your system. Backup and Restore: : EaseUS Todo Backup- http://www.todo-backup.com/EaseUS Todo Backup Free - Freeware - Total Backup Protection But one of my absolute favorites is: Password: KeePass - http://keepass.info/download.htmlKeePass is an open source password manager. One of my favorite utilities. NEVER type another password. 98% of successful virus/malware infections occur when a keylogger program is secretly installed on your hard drive. This 'logger' then records every keystroke and 'emails' them back to the attacker, who then has user names and passords to every single website/app you do business with (ebay, paypal, your banks, bitcoin). Be Safe. Right down important passwords (pencil, paper) and keep them in a safe. A locked safe. And use KeePass. Remember one password for all your passwords. Learn about and use Key files too. A hacker would need both the password and the keyfile to access your passwords. Be Safe and Good Luck..

There are quite a few trojans such as these on the "hackforums" site. I've spotted at least 3 - However from what I can see you're entirely safe if you've got your wallet encrypted.

There is a (new?) trojan wallet stealer out in the wild ATM. Plenty of script kiddies and scammers are going to be trying to get you to download and install it, what's more they'll be putting posts to do so (using lies obviously). Don't install anything linked to on this forum, unless it's been found by someone with a good reputation to be legit. Assume everything is an attempt to steal your wallet. Here is a portable apps version http://www.freeotfe.org/downloads/FreeOTFEExplorer_3_51.paf.exeHmmm.... >_> Love it!

again: please stop thanking the author and bumping this thread! It is almost a year old if you have not noticed. Thank you. Anyway there is no information in it besides FUD and link to some unidentified software. (what is it anyway?). I wonder why it was not locked a long time ago already...

If I'm not mistaken, this virus pre-date's the Bitcoin client's wallet encryption feature, so very likely that would be sufficient to thwart it. Although it would no doubt be possible to make a virus that also incorporates a keylogger.

You just bumped it What's the problem with warning people about the possibility of a wallet stealing trojan? it's not unthinkable by any means.

Someone can still take your wallet, and they can see transactions, but they can't perform a transaction without your password.
