Should i only answer if i indeed got hacked, or is it an hypothetical question?
It is not hypothetical. It is only for users to report a hacker stealing their coins.
Unless you hacked yourself... Which would be making your coins inaccessible through some user error/misadventure...
I hacked myself a few weeks ago (not BTC related). I was playing around with WEP hacking and after ignoring my WPA2 protected network and WPA protected guest network I chose the next highest signal strength, a router with a random string of letters & numbers as the SSID.
After successfully cracking the WEP I connected to it and did a speed test. I then checked my IP address to see who the provider was (speed was quite fast /humblebrag), but I thought the IP looked awful familiar.
After confirming it was indeed my home IP address I began to get alarmed, assuming some bitch had hacked my guest zone and was routing+repeating my network for his own gain. A few more tests and I thought I'd check his router to confirm he was running DD-WRT or Tomato. I was surprised to see a normal Verizon router login screen.
I started to feel a little stupid as I typed in my own admin password, but sure enough it logged me in to the router.
I had successfully hacked the built in verizon wifi network protected with 40-bit WEP that had been re-enabled when I had to restore defaults a few months earlier...
I felt extra smart that night.
