Drinks and Drinking

Now as the time has started moving, it is possible to consider our new temporal needs. Eating is not yet implemented but drinking soon will. At present, it is possible to amass the drinks for future consumption and taste the drinks to gain health points. The basics of the system are explained below:

1. Drink types

Mead is produced by the Town (later: by commoners in distilleries). The production carries a tax of 500 m per measure. The Town is currently selling mead for consumption at 1,000 m per measure. Thus, to change from water to mead, sets you back 24,000 m per realday = 168,000 m/gameyear. All mead is uniform, fungible and (currently) unperishable. It is "MEAD" in /F_OWN and 1 MEAD = 24 liters, enough for a realday.

Beer is a monopoly of the Church. The Church automatically produces the needed amount, and the cost of production, 1,000 m per bottle, is automatically paid to the Town. The Church can sell it at any price to make profit for themselves to be used for Church functions. All beer is uniform, fungible and (currently) unperishable. It is "BEER" in /F_OWN and 1 BEER = 24 bottles, enough for a realday.

Wine denotes any drink that is mid-strength and ages in bottle. They typically must be consumed in 10-50 years from production. Import tax is 10,000 m/bottle, in addition the cost of purchase may be significant. Wine can be consumed both for sustenance and by bottle. Gamemaster decides with what terms wine is able to be procured directly, or whether it must be bought from aftermarket. It is estimated that 1-3 types of wine would emerge per year, making the total number of wines in game to be about 100 at a later time (too old wines may be removed from drinkables and changed to collectibles).

- Currently W1600 price has been raised to 2 IC / a crate of 12 bottles (includes tax). This is because the 1601 vintage is considered poor so the price of this is pressured upwards. W1600 has gained more character rapidly (despite initial appearance to the contrary) and is a very enjoyable wine already, fetching 16-17 /20 regularly.
- W1601 is possible to be had for 1 IC / 12 bottles (incl tax). Tasting notes reveal a hardly drinkable character with no aging likely - instead will turn bad in a few years max. It is not even plentiful so price is high-ish.

Spirits are drinks that are distilled, strong, and do not age in bottle. They remain potable forever. Import tax is 100,000 m/bottle, and the purchase price may be significant. Spirits can only be consumed by bottle. Every other year, a new spirit comes to market (through some ingenious and always different method), dated for that year and not possible to buy more later. In addition, some generic spirits (such as CVS) will be available. These can be restocked and their age is not counted.


2. Drinking for sustenance

Each realday is 24 gamedays. Each realweek is 24*7 gamedays = 7 gamemonths = 1 gameyear. From now (1601) on, realweekly, you need to drink 168 bottles. This is deducted from your stock automatically in case of wine, and purchased automatically in case of beer/mead.


To keep the health of the townspeople from deteriorating too quickly, we set the following default drink plans (you can inform us to change your drink plan, it is in /CHAR):

- All wizards and nobles will drink the best wine that they have in stock (in the order: W1600, W1601B, W1600M, W1601) if they have any; if not, beer instead (Drink Plan A).

- Drink Plan AB is available upon request to those who cannot afford to drink only wine, but want to have some of its benefits. It consists of 24 bottles of the best wine they have, and 144 bottles of beer (Drink Plan AB).

- Experts and higher will drink beer (Drink Plan B) and purchase it from the Church automatically.

- Novices and lower will drink mead (Drink Plan C) and purchase it from the Town automatically.

- Drinking water (Drink Plan D) is available upon request (very unhealthy).

Drink Plan actually affects your health, which will be seen right away in 1602!


3. Drinking for fun/health

Please inform what you have drunk and how much, and have it deducted from your stock in /F_OWN.


4. Taxation rationale

The Town is trying to make drink taxes such a big source of income that business and labor taxes could, if possible, be removed altogether in the future.

- You can sell any gold to the King's Coinshop, but you may only take the items above, and the minimum number of pieces. "Taking change" of course ok, if you sell a large item, yet want to depart of a smaller amount of CKG.

- The new CR16xxA series now has two members, CR1601A and CR1602A. Most characters have both, and 500+ of both exist. CR1603A will be very rare, because only 1 per about 17 hours of playtime will be created next week. So it is likely that only few will come to existence. The same will be true of every future mintage until the game becomes successful. These coins are only minted from the virgin gold, which exceeds the 1,000,000 ancient gold quota.

- CR1601E (732) and CR1602E (3,280) are the most numerous CRxxxxE coins so far. Previous record is as recent as CR1599E (220) and the previous before that as historical as CR1418E (200, of which 198 remain).
