I think this is long overdue and seriously I was expecting Chelsea to actually go for an experience central defender yes, they got Lacroix this summer but I don’t think that is enough they need another one most especially with the likes of Fofana not been fit all the time. Then they also need to add full backs also because I don’t trust them that much most especially with James now deployed to the midfield.

As for Bastoni I think they can actually present a very good plan for him and it will be able to convince him to come but they actually have strong competition with Barcelona because they have already shown interest in signing him this summer and I think they will come back for him maybe winter or summer and Bastoni could lean towards them.

Then there is also the midfield that need to be improved because currently they have problems in the midfield and depending only on Caicedo, James and Lavia is risky because they are all prone to injury.

Changing the subject a bit, I wanted to share a recent transfer that caught my attention, Hakim Ziyech. Some might remember him from those glory days when Ajax reached the UCL semifinals, followed by his stints at Chelsea and Galatasaray before returning to Morocco.

His level has dropped quite a bit since those peak years. He’s 33 now and didn't even get called up for the Moroccan squad at the 2026 World Cup, despite being one of their key players back in 2022. That’s why it came as a surprise when Botafogo signed him a few days ago on a two year deal.

If he does, his flair should fit the Brazilian game pretty well, at least until he gets his first real taste of the Copa Libertadores or Sudamericana, which is a whole different beast.

His peak days were all at Ajax, I remember 2019 champions League knockout, these young players knocked out Real Madrid to end their three years streak run in the competition, it was in the round of 16 this happened. It was a big surprise, Real Madrid dominated Europe for three years and Ajax were the team to end that run. Got to the semi finals, Spurs knocked them out to qualify for the finals against Liverpool. Ziyech, Tadic and Neres in the Ajax attack, these young players were on top of their game. Sadly he didn't play the way he played for Ajax at Chelsea, he was an exceptional talent

Most players that come to the league can't cope with the physicality and the pace, and there are better teams competing in the other league. Only a few come into the league and start doing what they usually do for their previous club. If you think you have pace as an attacker, there is a defender there in the league to match the pace. If it is skill, technicality, and coaching brilliance, you will find it in the Premier League.

I didn't quite understand what the problem with the system is, then. The Premier League has the most money and attracts a large number of top players (though certainly not all of them, in fact, the biggest superstars arguably play outside the Premier League) creating intense competition at both the mid-table and elite levels. Some players handle the pressure, while others don't, but that’s how it works in other leagues as well. The only difference I see is that the Premier League can buy an average player for 100 million (whereas La Liga or the Bundesliga might only pay 50), and that average player, by delivering mediocre results despite such a huge price tag, creates the impression of a flop.

It's quite natural, their centre-backs are a lot but at the moment I don't see a decent performance with the number of centre-backs Chelsea have at the moment so it's appropriate Xabi wants to look for new signings because he's still not satisfied with the squad.

But now I think Xabi also have to see how further developments considering he has signed Maxence Guy Lacroix in the summer transfer at a price that is quite expensive too so when looking for a new central defender they have to eliminate some players so that this does not become a buildup in the Chelsea squad.

80 million euro is quite enough to get a good replacement if they decide to let him go.

I feel like the fee might be quite much looking at his age but with the current transfer structure it's still okay. The final decision here might be on Bastoni agreement to join us especially since the fee is very much enough or good.

I'm happy his not talking about attack but insisting on defence unlike some teams that are having defensive problems but wants to reinforce their attack even more instead of fixing the defence. It's just a rumours there is no confirmed news about Bastoni because at the start of the transfer window Bastoni is linked with barcelona but barcelona didn't give them the amount which Inter Milan want after that's Bastoni link to Madrid but Mourhrino sign konate from Liverpool and now Chelsea rumours. I hope Chelsea can sign him and personally I like Bastoni he is such good defender which fit in every team and EPL will be great place for Bastoni if the rumours is true Chelsea can pay the whole amount what's Inter Milan want. 100 million for Álvarez (after Real offered 150), 40 for Bastoni This club is trying to find miracles, but those days are long gone. Brand power might have worked 30 or even 20 years ago, but nowadays money is what decides everything. Money comes first, everything else follows. Plus, to be honest, with all due respect to Barcelona and their success in La Liga (which I acknowledge as a Real Madrid fan), they are not a brand that can guarantee anything. Even the La Liga title is not guaranteed, as Real will come to their senses someday, it is inevitable, and they have been in the Champions League for 10 years now on same level like every mediocracy club.

Being part of the plan or not I don't think Barcelona now stand a chance to get Bastoni anymore. They fumbled when they had the chance to get him so no I don't think they will have the chance now that Chelsea are seriously adding more strength to their defense. With the current performance of Chelsea and how weak their defense is they look very serious now so I don't think they are holding back no matter the amount they are asked to pay which surely Barcelona can't compete with.

No coach or manager will be happy with the way Chelsea is conceding right now, so I will not be surprised if they bring in defensive enforcement in January. Bastoni is a very good defender and will definitely improve Chelsea's defense,  so I think it's going to be a very good signing for them, but I still think this is just rumour for now, but we will get to find out when the transfer window is close, although I strongly believe that Chelsea will definitely bring in defenders in January to help the team do better.

It would be very good if they can spend such amount to just get bastoni which I doubt Chelsea would do that currently on another defender, 80 million pounds I a huge amount of money and I would expect them to be very sure that he is the right choice before they seal the deal.
