I think it's not a religion, but a sect.

I don't know much about them, but they don't agree to blood transfusions, even if this could save their lives, which could put them in conflict with the law, especially if a child dies because the parents decided it was a god's choice. Of course I agree it's a mockery. But why to teach it. For example, I explained to my daughter that there is no God and she does not believe in him. In school it is not taught religion, so I'm sure that neither she nor her children will not be in illusions.

So far I don't see them causing much trouble in my country and they tend to be nice here. Groups that are usually considered fundamentalists elsewhere like the Mormons are fairly benign here, probably because Catholics still outnumber them. I'd definitely take these sects anytime to fundamentalist Islam.

They mostly get into trouble because of disobedience but even there they don't resort to violence, unlike some followers of the religion of peace. This news reminded me of a teen who was imprisoned in Singapore because he refused military service.

I know a couple of people here who are members of this congregation and they're pretty much harmless people who just gives away fliers about their religion on weekends. There are a lot of non-Orthodox denominations in Russia, and none of them are targeted. There are Muslims (6% to 7% of the population), Catholics, Buddhists and Shamanists. Ask them if they have ever faced any sort of harassment.
