I'm not a huge fan of master-node coins, but every time I invest in one I profit from a really nice pump (likely due to the artificial scarcity created by encouraged node holdings.). Any coins starting up that look promising?

If you have cash at hand, Crown might be a good (cheap) option right now.
Team meets regularly - latest meeting was in Miami.

And their tech is promising too: not a single point of failure for its use-case, since it's a platform. Also legal compliance, something the entire market has to make choices about 2018/19 with regulation coming..
Right now trades for a little over 1.20$ - and the simple node is only 500 CRW (bigger one 10k CRW).

A lot of people have been burned with Masternode coins via the infamous "presale auction in discord" format. A recent one went away with 20btc of gullible investors.
One way to know if a coin promising masternode is worthy or to ask yourself, what is the future of the coin other than masternodes? What will masternodes be used for, just artificially locking in the coins and nothing else?
One more thing, masternode coins isnt the best investment, if you ask me. If you discover a coin with good tech, team and roadmap then it would beat the returns of any of these coins. Check out Multiversum

they are very unstable and often have no real goal besides being a MN, they are often also scammy and just try to sell MNs

There used to be 60,000,000 coins but 2 years ago the exchange that all the coins were on went down and the coins were lost forever.

Now there are only ~4 million. Very few more coins will ever be created.

Where did you get this information? 4 million type of coin is too much i think.
However, all of the coin which dont have popularity of course they will have small market cap so there is big chance to lose forever.
