I'll try those. And yeah, I can't get any appstore stuff to work other than updates, because this is a custom built hackintosh Wink shhhh... don't tell.
Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I ran both of those commands for brew and for Macports. Restarted the machine and reinstalled MacMiner. Same doggone error.

damn. short of removing all the libraries mentioned by brew doctor and trying again or reinstalling mountain lion (which on a regular mac at least, leaves your files intact and just installs a fresh system) I'm out of ideas. It might be something to do with being a hackintosh… sorry I can't be of any more help!

ah, it's cool Thanks for all the help though. I use a Core i5 iMac at work so once I get it updated to ML, I'll see how it goes on there.

thanks, let me know how you get on! I'm pretty sure it should work on a standard setup, but I only have machines packed with libs and VMs without access to the GPU to test on so far :/

I'm a bit of a Mac noob, but I'd like to try this out. I have a Mountain Lion Mac mini; is there anything special I need to do to get this to work? I have 2 BFL Singles (FPGA miners) connected through USB and would like to try out bfgminer with them.

Also, when Luke releases new bfgminer code, how does one update the Mac application? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your interest, I'd really like some feedback from fpga users like yourself!

bfgminer support is very beta at the moment, but it should work with any pool as long as there's not more or less than one command in the Options textview (you just need to open the preferences window and check use bfgminer first) - if you need to use more than one for now the thing to do is pop open the terminal and

cd /Applications/MacMiner.app/Contents/Resources/bfgminer/bin

and then run bfgminer as you would normally e.g.

./bfgminer -o pool.address.tld:port -u user -p pass (then any flags you want say -S <arg> to scan a specific place for your fpga or --bfl-range (use nonce range on bitforce devices if supported)

bfgminer does scan for devices but I'm not sure whether it can find all of them on Mac, because libudev is linux only, you may need to point it to the devices specifically. this is the kind of thing I'm hoping to get sorted while it's still in beta! but maybe just run with -q (for quiet, although bfgminer does still output a lot) or -D (for even more output - including the results of it's scan for supported hardware).

The .pkg installer installs bfgminer 3.0.1
Built with GPU CPU bitforce icarus avalon modminer x6500 ztex scrypt mining support.
and the dependencies needed, so if not being fully featured yet in connecting to the MacMiner gui is holding you back at least you can get bfgminer installed the mac way rather than installing all the dependencies with homebrew, macports or from source.

There's no self-update in place yet (the app is less than a month old and I'm just working on it in my free time) but I will be sure to update it and the thread regularly as I'll be using it myself too, on GPUs for now and BFL ASICs in future. Once all the back-ends are properly functioning I'll look in to update notifications from within the app, so it will prompt you when there's an upgrade available. Until it's built to update itself, you can just run the installer again and it will replace all the updated components with the newer versions.

the package available at the same address has been updated with bfgminer bugfixes and cpuminer for litecoin, you can run more than one at once, choose which from the 'View' menu

They're all version 1 so far - a factor of my laziness - but if there's nothing in the View menu you don't have the latest - redownload the .pkg and run the installer again and it should show up for you!

postscript: I'm going to release the real v1 soon with a 'check for updates automatically' feature, I've just been battling with 10.7 support which I'd like to get sorted before I release it. And I'm a little busy today!

Will there ever be a version for those of us stuck on 10.7?
I've got my old Mac Pro running 10.7 and the bitminter client currently, but I'd love to be able to try other miners and see which one has the best performance.

Definitely, I've cpuminer working on 10.7 in the unreleased version and poclbm won't be a problem, I was just spending a long time struggling to get all the dependencies of bfgminer packaged in the app but it has a lot of trouble installing with jansson out of system directories so for now at least it will remain .pkg/installer based (although I'll remove admin permissions for the app so people who don't need cpuminer/bfgminer can install without entering a password) but the next version will work with 10.7!

Any update on the latest MacMiner being available for 10.7 yet? For some reason I can only get CPUminer to work at the moment in the http://fabulouspanda.co.uk/MacMiner10.7-1.0.2.pkg . Would love to test anything you may have for us Lion users who are unable to upgrade to 10.8 due to hardware constraints Sad

That looks like it's working, does it start hashing and accepting shares? You should get about 150-170MH

If not, can you test another pool? Or use the CGMiner window - I just set up a p2pool and the MacMiner (poclbm) window doesn't like it but BFG Miner and CG Miner are working with it fine. Just figuring it might be that as it's the same port?

the p2pool node i'm running is on 176.58.119.218:9332 with username BTC address password just anything, if anyone's interested…

They definitely do work with the latest version, try 1.4.3 from the main thread here:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=197110.20

If you haven't installed the USB serial drivers use the CG Miner window and type

-S /dev/pathtomydevice

in the custom flags text field

if you have installed the drivers do the same in the bfg miner window

3.1.2 won't compile unfortunately!
