I not into buying anything on Silk Road, too paranoid etc. but if one wanted to look just to see what they got, dose that mean you got to use Tor just to visit the site?
Well if you're not going to buy anything you could visit the site through tor2web, although none of the embedded images will load.

^^ I'll take that as a no.

At lest Tor is getting increasingly easier to set up; then again I have no real reason to visit so...

I can't seem to connect to the silk road.  Do I have the right link?  ianxz6zefk72ulzz.onion/index.php  ?

Edit:  I'm just curious in the site, I don't do or sell drugs but I thought it'd be interesting to check out.

That's the right link. Are you using Tor?

Hi,

I know that SR was down for maintenance but as of yesterday my buying and selling accounts are fine and have no problem with signing on or with any selling or buying.

If you need help shoot me a message and I'll look on SR to see if I can see you on SR

They are not accepting any new accounts. So if you don't have an account then you will not get on. Only to the logon screen which is a sign in with a captcha.

Rock on.

How would I go about obtaining an account if I wanted one?

If anyone has any alternative "Silk road" sites, please PM them, prefereably to me at least.

It'd be a shame to return to the streets....please don't back baby in a corner, and send a PM...

I'd be happy just having access to silk road...

Silk Road is up and open. Don't follow ant links there from the Hidden Wiki. There's a phishing link going around.

I'm glad it's back up; I've never used it (never even visited it) and never intend to, but I am happy that it exists for a couple of reasons:

1) I think that the things it sells (those that I've heard of) should be legal anyway
2) It is a major prop for bitcoin

In fact I honestly believe that bitcoin will only really see use going forward as a pseudo-anonymous payment method enabling purchase of illegal items from anonymized sites and also for people to purchase things that are legal but that they don't want anyone to know that they purchased.  For example if I wanted to buy porn but didn't want my wife to know, it would be an easy way for me to make an untraceable purchase of porn.

Bitcoin has too many technical limitations to make a significant dent in other forms of payment *except* anonymous payments where it is just about the perfect vehicle.

Compared to dollars, it can't be easily exchanged in person (I realize that there are bitcoin cards and stuff being proposed but I feel very strongly that they are destined to fail as they offer nothing that I can see that cash wouldn't) and there are tons and tons of things you can buy with dollars that you can not now, and probably never will be able to, buy with bitcoins.

Compared to credit/debit card networks, it's way slower and less reliable (as others have pointed out, the convenience of asking for the bill at a restaurant, providing credit card, signing it, and walking away, is impossible with bitcoin because of the minimum 10 minute transaction verification interval, which probably will be much, much longer).

Compared to banks, it is much riskier to hold bitcoins because of the digital nature making them easier to hack into and steal.  The pseudo-anonymous nature of bitcoins makes them basically uninsurable (if someone insured your wallet, how could you ever prove that a transaction that 'stole' them from you wasn't just you sending them to some other wallet that you have access to?  You'd never be able to prove a claim that you lost bitcoins because nobody can ever prove where they went).  So they are much harder to secure and insure than any other payment form I know of.

I honestly believe that bitcoin cannot challenge any other payment forms for the above reasons.  But one place it will shine is for transactions where nobody wants to use the other forms of payment, and that would be for illegal transactions and for transactions that you wouldn't want anybody to know about.  This is I think a very niche part of the monetary system, but it is real and bitcoin will fill it (if it doesn't fail due to technical problems, which I actually think is fairly likely also).

There has to be a better place for this discussion.

Or maybe not, maybe "Newbie" section is the only place such talk should be allowed.

can someone please pm me the TOR link for the silk road forums?

They had a link when you clicked 'community forums' and it took you to the new forum which is also running on simple machines forum.
I forgot to bookmark it and I keep getting the TTL error when trying to get on silkroad.

Old thread is old...

This is normal for Silk Road, sometimes you'll fail to connect for as long as 10-15 minutes. It's a consequence of the site having so much security: it's slow and unwieldy at times. Try refreshing ever minute or so and eventually you'll see the login screen. Make sure when you do, though, that you log in right away, otherwise it can time out again.

Im going to be annoying like these other fuckers that brought this death thread back. Blah blah blah..

Other then that, connection problems with SR are more then normal when it comes to using tor to get there.

I am having the same problem now. When I try to log in to Silk Road, it just sends me right back to the login page over and over again. I tried to register a new account too, and the same thing happened. I have never had this problem before. I used SR just earlier today- actually purchased something- with no problems, and suddenly I cannot log in. Is anyone else having this problem??? Any ideas how I can fix it, or is it just a glitch with their website that they have to fix? HELP?!?! Angry
