Installing 7x cards directly in PCI-E on an X99 motherboard is not an issue at all even if the card has one power plug.

I have 7x 1070 Strix directly installed on PCI-E slots on an X99 motherboard, all good.

I'll just share info which is needed for this thread.
7x 1070's can in fact be plugged directly into a X99 (one's with 7 PCI-E slots) and it will work.      https://i.imgur.com/0Wzr621.jpg

In the Katan case, it even can be done without modifying the card. Now, the compatibility question has been answered, the new question is heat.

that katana single slot seems ok. whats the noise level compared to double wides?

i had a single slot HD4850 back in btc mining days, only problem was the heat sink would clog easily with dust  as fins were so finely pitched. i had to pull it once a month or so and blow the thing out from the back towards to fan. had decent filtering on the rig too.

be nice to pack 3 or 4 of those in a matx board in a smallish case with some serious filtered fans. small, cat proof.

Too much gear to tell sound.

Me too! I already sort of started again. I broke away when BTC difficulties got way too high and never came back. But I think that is changing

I think I decided to build a four card rig using 3 katana and 1 founders 1080ti (I have a lot of the 1080ti's)

I will use the biostar z170 board I have lots of them

goal will be a 1750 sol rig  in a case  using 500 watts.

I am going to order parts today.

which would be 2 more katana's

and a case. as all the parts are on hand.

the exhaust are a bit stronger  then the intake.

it gives negative pressure in the case.

so in theory  hot air leaves a little better.




Since I have 2 cases on order and enough fans on order. but only 2 katana's

Rather then bitching moaning and groaning about whales buying out the katana's

I will build two  3 card builds.

Katana 1070 +  founders  1080 ti +  founders 1080 ti


should work okay

400 + 650 + 650 = 1700 sol a case  at  450-475 watts.


much better then a six card rx 580 build     at 1850 sol and 900 watts

I am down about it because I messaged them in early May  I explained that I would do a thread here.  I wanted a deal  and I misread what he told me.

I read no discount and clicked the facebook message  closed.  I then ordered one card did the thread.  I went back to order 2 or 3 more on the site  and was only able to order 1 unit.  Sold out.

So   I went back to face book messages  and went to send a new message to ask when they come back in stock.

So the facebook messages follow each other  and when I looked at his answer this time I read no discount  for a few.  I realized he said discount for 10

underneath it. So I rushed back in early May and fucked myself.



So I ended up with 2 cards at full price  not 10 with a discount  and I wrote the thread that most likely sold the gear out.

Same thing with the pandaminers.
Although  a made a few dollars on the one I got.  maybe 180-200 bucks.

I really wanted to do the two  3 + 1 build.  If I read his message I would have grabbed the 10 and did three 3 builds

a 3 + 1
a 4 + 0


I will settle with two  1 + 2 builds instead. I hope it teaches me to not misread  a message on facebook

I may end up getting 4 cards and doing a four card build.

The second card comes Wednesday

The newegg case comes tues
The fans come tues.

The  3rd and 4th cards  I am waiting for a second followup from the message sent today.

That is a good price on a good case that actually has EIGHT PCI slot openings.

 Very good price while it's on sale - my favorite Thermaltake V34 (or the V35 if you prefer top controls) with 8 card slots is usually less than that one.

Doesn't  look like you can fit 4 x 2-slot cards in either of those cases, though. May not need it for this build, but perhaps for the next one
