The opening will be facing the apartment and the shell will protect the dust and rain.
There will be two big PC fans installed in the hood to pull the heat out while (in theory) should be sucking colder air from below.

Let us know what the temperatures are like on a hot summer day. I'm most curious to see if the airflow can keep up with the heat output when it's 85 degrees or hotter (or 30 C). Is your balcony shaded from direct sunlight?

Will update one I get it installed tomorrow and when the temperature gets hotter.
It is shaded for the most part but I think 1/4 of the day will be direct sunlight.
Until I end up ordering the 2 larger fans, it will be running with an 80mm and 120mm fan.

Located in Florida Maybe switch out the dark colored tarp to a white tarp to reduce the sun's radiant heat.
Ahhhh I totally didn't think about that. The other side of the tarp is gray  I do have those reflective emergency blankets that are really thin and reflective but I don't want to have to deal with management complaining about a bright and shiny ball of foil reflecting light. If things go south, I will try to change it. |

I don't see that being able to dissipate heat nearly well enough. Watch your temps very carefully because I suspect it is going to get way too hot in there.

good job. but i would suggest to put a small humidifier inside this rack just to be sure (if you want to use some fans for inflow and outflow. check my last posts in RIG Porn thread, maybe you will get some ideas. i also wanted to put my rig to my balcony, but have currently no solution hot to put LAN and PSU cable through the balcony door (since its not my apartment i cant do damage to the plastic parts of door, otherwise i would be doing some holes in it.  |

I just built another weather-proof outdoor rig and wanted to show y'all the outcome. Parts List:6x MSI Rx 570 4GB Gaming X Asrock fatal1ty Z97x Killer Windows 10 Pro Headless System w/ TeamViewer + HDMI Dummy Plug 6x V006C Risers (4x on independent SATA cables/2x direct 6-pin) 2x 750w EVGA Gold PSU's Random Unknown HDD Ballistix DDR3 Ram 3 Tier Amazon Shelf Surge Protector 790 Joules Firberglass netting Old Wireless-G Belkin Adaptor 1,000,000 Zip Ties 10 Beers Location: Apartment Balcony I built this rig with random parts I had laying around and picked up 6x Rx 570's when they were cheap (Technically paid more now that BTC has gone up  ) It's going to be sitting on an apartment balcony so I wanted to ensure that it was weather resistent and sturdy enough that it wouldn't break if the wind got too strong. Interesting concept but what I see is humidity killing this rig in a few months or less. To combat this I recommend you put some of the moisture absorbing silica bags infront of your intake and some inside the rig somehow. Change them out every few months and you might really have something. Example of what I'm talking about - https://www.amazon.com/Dry-Packs-Moisture-Absorbing-Indicating-Contains/dp/B001UYEBNW 2nd factor is insect infestation, if they figure out any way to penetrate your screening you will have hell getting them out. Roaches love heat. |
