CAN I USE BFL HARDWARE FOR LITECOINS OR NAMECOINS?
WILL IT BE THE SAME HASH RATE?

CAPS OFF!
To the defense of the OP, it is kinda dark, being it's a solar eclipse and all...

What is the difference between scrypt and sha256 anyways?

scrypt has 6 letters whereas sha256 has 3 letters and 3 numbers. Dude! Never heard of Google or the forum search function?

uh no google or the search function doesn't work properly
and no nobody wants to look for hours for some kind of answer that doesn't really answer your question but kinda does
okay, next question, which is harder scrypt or sha256? surely 3 letters and 3 numbers provides more permutations than just letters?

Google isn't broken, and it doesn't take HOURS to google a simple thing like "scrypt vs sha256" and find the answer for the question that you just asked. Hint: it's the first result, and it took me about 15 seconds. Now get off your lazy ass and stop complaining when we tell you that the information is out there.

SHA256 and Scrypt are two different hashing algorithms. An ASIC can be designed to do only one thing.* Bitcoin uses SHA256, so Bitcoin mining ASICs can only compute SHA256. So no, a bitcoin mining ASIC cannot be used to mine litecoins or any other coin that uses scrypt.
Namecoin uses SHA256 and can actually be merge-mined alongside bitcoin so you can definitely mine namecoins with a bitcoin ASIC.
*That "one thing" could actually be to do multiple things (like a GPU ASIC that can be programmed) but in the case of bitcoin mining ASICs, the one thing is only SHA256.

lol most people still use internet explorer
i actually thought that sha256 and scrypt are all dependent on software and not hardware
HOW CAN YOU POSSIBLY CONSTRICT HARDWARE TO MINE "JUST" SHA256? I DON'T GET IT
ALSO DID WE NOT JUST CONCLUDE THAT SCRYPT IS JUST LETTERS AND SHA256 IS LETTERS AND NUMBERS, that is a small problem

Inside that thread that he just googled: sha256 : easier to find best settings on your miner, less power by underclocking mem, secure, less of a headache. scrypt: pain in the ass finding best settings for new comers and not only, using a lot of power resulting in fast wear of your cards. Basically scrypt is killing the card, meaning no later resale .
YOU PEOPLE ARE SO LAME YOU COULDN'T EVEN FIGURE IT OUT ACTUALLY GO TO THAT THREAD AND READ IT, it doesn't explain anything!!!!!!!!
Are you retarded? We gave you the answer for the question you asked, and you're back here yelling at us like we owe you something?

One uses puppy eyeballs to complete calculations (eyeballs are consumed in the process), the other uses kitten hearts (also consumed in the process). You can't substitute one for the other.

If you're searching these lines for a point, you've probably missed it. There was never anything there in the first place.
