With Elianite's bid this thread has now come full circle to epitomize the current existence of bitcoin. It starts off as a novel idea, is followed by questions, some intrigue, a lot of criticism, and is finally legitimized by someone saying "yeah, I see value in that, i'll buy that!"
I was getting worried about the excessive trolling in this thread, especially on a sub-forum that embraces auctions for all forms of Bitcoin paraphernalia, coins, books, art, etc. It's not unlike the criticism that people who don't understand anything about bitcoin dispose upon all of us when we bring it up in conversation. Many people dismiss bitcoin as some sort of "geek's infatuation"...another tech fad that will fade away....something that's ridiculous to think of in terms of having value.
And technically all that thinking is true until someone declares "I see value in it"...and then the declaration of that value, by one person or many, fights back the criticism and breathes hope and life into the first novel idea.
It's great that someone sees value in this Jetcoin. And it could be no more fitting that The Ambassador of physical cryptocoins decides to make an offer.
This thread embodies the struggle that bitcoin has had and will have with mainstream adoption. We should all recognize that fact. We should work to call out those that say bitcoin (and related cryptocurrencies) has no purpose or value. (I know I've criticized the alts.)
We should thank Elianite for demonstrating a genuine devotion to bitcoin, this project, so clearly for us in this auction.

I'd say throwing money in the sea over something that's utter crap is not as noble as you paint it out to be. But spending money is no sport either. Mainstream adoption will have nothing to do with collecting physical crypto, it will merely be 1/10 of a drop in the ocean when all comes full circle.

Jetcoin isn't Bitcoin.
If elianite wants to waste his money on a collectible for a currency that will be even more irrelevant as time goes by then he can be my guest, though I can't say I much like the attitude of praising him for doing so. If I waste my money on a bunch of worthless shit I am an idiot, not a saint.
Also, anyone trying to pull "it's value comes with time" is just being silly. Value comes to anything with age, it doesn't mean that it has any more value currently. If you disagree, will you buy a box of my cat's shit for $30? It will become more valuable eventually.

The criticism comes from the ludicrous buy-it-now price of 100 BTC, nothing more. Lots of people market altcoin memorabilia here without issue, but the difference between this post and the others is that most sellers aren't trying to put insanely high valuations on their products, especially for obscure altcoins which have no relevance to the crypto space. I've done some digging, and Jetcoin is not listed as one of the 700+ altcoins tracked by coinmarketcap. It's not listed on any altcoin exchange. There is no market value or block explorer. It has been around for over 2 years and has done nothing other than make some very poorly produced marketing videos. It looks like nothing more than a failed pump and dump which burned through a marketing budget to produce crappy tokens to promote at conferences and the like. Elianite, no offense, but this doesn't belong anywhere near the Encyclopedia. If the promoters of Onecoin and Paycoin paid a few dollars on Alipay to have a copper coin produced for the purpose of milking suckers into investing, do those belong in the Encyclopedia as well?

I'll leave this here, it is one of my favorite entries in the book. I encourage everyone to read it. Worldcoin may be what some call a 'shitcoin', but that does not mean that its 'relic' might not have collector value. i'm not making a claim about monetary value here, but academic/historical/cultural value. Its clear that different collectors value different things, but we should not be dismissive of coins like this. Cool update: someone has agreed to send minerjones one of their jetcoins for photography and proper cataloging, so that this coin will be properly recorded as part of 'crypto-heritage'.

Yes, that coin would absolutely, most certainly belong into the encyclopedia. The purpose of the book is to record and categorize coins; and through them, preserve and curate the history of crypto-currency. Any coin that has any significance, story (negative or positive), or originality belongs there. The only coins that were not previously included are those for which not enough info exists to make a half-complete entry. Most people agree that Onecoin/Paycoin was a scam. If a coin was produced to support the scam, I would very much consider it worthy of study and collection. The book also has many pages dedicated to Coinographic, which turned out to be somewhat of a scam. that story is recorded. Should it instead be erased and forgotten?

Both of you can be right (though I doubt if this coin is the first.. there are many coins created for a dozens of alt-coins). One can think that this coin has some type of collectible value while also believing that 'jetcoin' had no value whatsoever. I think that the forum can forgive you for the 100btc buy-it-now request; after all, it is not the asker who is crazy, but the payer (old finnish proverb).

Fair enough, the criteria you use for inclusion into the book is 100% within your right as the author. I don't see how Coinographic is similar in that it was a coin that was known to the collector community, based on Litecoin, and certainly is an important and compelling cautionary tale for future buyers. Even with the Antaui coin, it was available for purchase at one point, had a known mintage, contained a hologram, and was produced by a real mint. Furthermore, the coin it is based on, Worldcoin, at least had some relevancy to the crypto space and is still traded to this day on at least three altcoin exchanges (and a market cap of $2M if you can believe it). I don't see anything particularly relevant about Jetcoin. It appears they were referenced in a few articles, though I don't find that the least bit interesting as those publishers will write an article in exchange for money or share of a pre-mine. The physical coin itself has no interesting features to speak of as well -- there's no hologram, no mint marks, and it doesn't appear to have been available for purchase. This thread has gotten pretty far off track, and I'm sure the OP will be very happy to know that you will list his coin so that he can maybe sell it for much more. As you said, he's not crazy for doing that, but the buyer certainly would be

Which were actually holding private keys and had digital value until raided. I guess it comes down on whether you want to produce the Encyclopedia of Physical Bitcoins and Crypto-Currencies or the Encyclopedia of Physical Tokens related to or promoting Bitcoins and Crypto-Currencies. there is just to much going on for this coin.
lets not get ahead of ourselves. Auction time instead, or is the 0.05 BTC bid by Elianite too low and you're afraid nobody is going to bid more? Notice how OP responds to every criticism, but not to that demand? One may wonder.

The criticism comes from the ludicrous buy-it-now price of 100BTC, nothing more. Lots of people market altcoin memorabilia here without issue, but the difference between this post and the others is that most sellers aren't trying to put insanely high valuations on their products, especially for obscure altcoins which have no relevance to the crypto space.
OK, the impossible and baseless valuation doesn't start things off well, but to say that it has no relevance to the crypto space isn't fair at all. especially on a sub-forum that embraces auctions for all forms of Bitcoin paraphernalia, coins, books, art, etc.
Jetcoin isn't Bitcoin. And neither is Lealana (started and remain mostly Litecoin loaded), Nasty Coins (love you OG), Monero coin, Ether bars, Shibanu, Crypto Imperator Doge DIY, Blockchain at Berkeley Coin, the list goes on. And many of the bitcoin loaded physical coins copy some element of Mike Caldwell's design! The best part is the fact that we're arguing/debating Jetcoin's right to be here actually legitimizes the physical cryptocoin scene. We've turned a corner. We're debating this like people debate art. We just upped this scene in sophistication. This debate benefits all of us, whether you hold Casascius coin, Shibanu, one of those rustic looking "no-two-are-alike" brass tokens pressed with the BTC in it, or one of the very few Jetcoins.
