Does this make BTC look bad to the masses.....
Why you think this will make BTC look bad to the masses It's not bitcoin that have enabled this hackers to put this ransomeware in computers worldwide, NSA must be blamed for this and windows for not warning their users about this vulnerability.

For me the concern is how we will react. Will people learn to resist cyberattacks by deploying crypto defensively? I hope so. A network of hardened nodes would make the internet stronger and more resilient. But I worry that a fearful reaction would result in an attempt to create a closed, policed Internet. One that takes cryptography away from people to "protect them".

Could this be a false flag to make it look as if BTC is a currency only to be used by criminals?
i think if this was 2 years ago then you were right. but at this point in time we are way past that because to put simply there are a lot more good news about bitcoin than there are bad ones. and with all of these good ones i doubt the number of people who think bitcoin is bad (a currency only to be used by criminals) are anything more than a handful.

There are 100 threads like this. Why make another? Who cares. Someone just got kidnapped and they demanded USD. Now I hate USD. I can no longer use any currency because someone traded it for heroine. I'm totally screwed.
Will anyone trade a cow, 14 eggs, 2 chickens 2 goats, 4 pigs and a half decent wife for a car? I can't use monies. They r evil.

I agree, this has very little to do with bitcoin besides being the chosen ransom payment method. Surprisingly, I would not blame Micro$oft for this either as a patch for this exploit was released months ago. Just another warning for everybody to keep their systems patched and up to date.

This is not the first ransomware that gain the first page of newspaper. I think there is another effect. If criminals want bitcoin and not fiat cash, bitcoin has bigger value and offer more security!

There's no doubt in my mind that this is going to be used by the states to propagate his anti bitcoin agendas, so expect anytime now that TV programs start making bitcoin specials where they talk shit about it.
It would be great if panic selling idiots stop panic selling every time a ransomware attack happens, maybe we'll keep going up then.

More people will learn about it and likely get interested up to a point of buying a few satoshi here and there. Anything is better than nothing, and a little of publicity won't hurt Bitcoin anyway Will anyone trade a cow, 14 eggs, 2 chickens 2 goats, 4 pigs and a half decent wife for a car? I can't use monies. This is indeed very sad yes,
the most non tech guys (and females), which i know, associate BTC always as HACKER Currency, and a few of them even think it´s illegal (well thought). But I have no idea what could be possibly done against this. It is convinient for everybody on the internet to use BTC, including Blackhats.

The one thing that drives others very easily to use btc to accept payments as these hackers is that it is s easy to have a wallet and use it. You don't need to give any other details about your self and if used right you can even cover most of your tracks. Sadly but yeah most people associate it as illegal and as some kind of money that is used for illegal things like on dark markets and for hackers. Hopefully bitcoin will show other side of it.

It's very bad news for me since I'm try to ask my friend to invest on bitcoin but my friend show me this "WannaCry" attack , it surely will impact on them for not investing or involving bitcoin things too much. That's why my goverment still forbid bitcoin usage since it can be use for criminal activity

Please stop this nonsense, Ransomware is nothing compares to Bitcoin. This kind of 'small' attack won't really have a big affect on Bitcoin, just like Iranus said here. Well it's definitely not a giant conspiracy to make Bitcoin look bad, it's just some bastards using Bitcoin. They will use it just like how many bastards use physical cash. Doesn't make it any worse for legal transactions anyway.
The mainstream media have covered Bitcoin surprisingly little after the ransomware attacks, and barely even mention it in the articles except for in passing. Actually, it's very surprising how much their coverage of Bitcoin has matured over the past few years.
More understanding will come with time. Problems like this are barely even setbacks.
It's not a big deal for Bitcoin, the only thing that matters is us. How could it be settled if the Bitcoin user itself keep thinking that it would affect the Bitcoin?

To me ransomeware attacks are a perfect excuse for government intervention into slowing down Bitcoin (or at least making it harder to use).
Please note that almost every .gov in the world has been tightening the screws on our freedoms, both financial and general personal liberties.

not really, the real problem here is the hospitals using outdated software and not backing up important medical records and patient info... https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/14223/windows-xp-end-of-supportWhat happens if I continue to use Windows XP? If you continue to use Windows XP now that support has ended, your computer will still work but it might become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses. Internet Explorer 8 is also no longer supported, so if your Windows XP PC is connected to the Internet and you use Internet Explorer 8 to surf the web, you might be exposing your PC to additional threats. they should of seen this coming...

Why is it that if there's is a negative news about bitcoin, the media is all over it? I only see one article about getting a new ATH, but when something like this happened, all mainstream media sensationalized this kind of negative news? That's why country like India and Russia became reluctant to really fully adopt bitcoin because all the government heard is that bitcoin is being used for illegal activities like ponzi, hyip, terrorist funding and now ransomware.
