I am bored and looking at building an open air GPU rig to tinker with, but I can't find too much intel on how loud and how much heat they put off.  I would have a single rig in my office (ambient 74 deg f) running 6x RX 480's.

At one time I had an Antminer S3 and S7 in my office and those got evicted pretty quick, so how would this compare to an S3?

Thanks.

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

dunno bout noise (depends on how you build it) but for heat, imagine a 1200+ watt heater running 24/7..

For the noise they don't do too much noise but for the heat, they do tend to heat very quickly, I only have 3 running in a room and the room becomes extremely hot, I put air conditioned directly to them and still the room is hot. So if hotness is not a problem for your office go with it but if you can't keep them cool you will run into problems eventually.

Yeah it's not the noise that's the problem it's the heat.

It's like a space heater.

I have mine near an open screen window.

The best solution is water cooling and radiator outside the building/room Smiley

A friend put his rigs in the kitchen since he never cooks and mostly eats outside. This way he could use the kitchen air absorber to suck the warm air from the cards. Believe it or not it actually kinda works.

Once I get more rigs I am going to fix a "box" made of wood to my window with an exhaust fan.

Passive air cooling = cheaper than anything else.

Noise wont be a problem, these cards are next to silent with the dual fans depending on the setup.

Heat well, if you want a sauna and to grow some tropical plants then it will be a perfect solution.

If you have been drinking too much, eating bad then you can sweat out the toxins and begin a cleansing program.

since he gonna put the rig in his office then it is a problem for him i guess .

i used 4x sapphire rx 480 nitro too and pretty noise enough for a silent room and of course heating , desolate and a little bit clumsy but looks like it could be a good idea to create some green area around to make the room more comfortable hmmm .

Thanks everyone for the input, it sounds like a bad idea for my office.  What about running them in a garage that could hit ambient temps of 85-90 f?  Will the cards overheat?

if you put 3 fans in front of your gpu it should be fine even with high temperature like now in sumer, buy 3 noctua industrial 3000 cfm, they are a beast can cool down easily any gpu
