Greetings,
I was sitting here this afternoon looking at buying another setup of components for my new build. But then I came over news about the AMD Vega that is around the corner. Now I know that there isn't really much information about the Vega so far. But does anyone of you have any clue about how good the Vega will be ?
It will probably be quite expensive compared to the 5xx series and 4xx series. I don't really see it giving anything above 40Mh/s mining ethereum and nowhere below 200watt if that would be the case. That means it has to be about 300$ to be worth the wait?
Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't it be best to stick with the 570 for now ? or do you think I should wait untill they release the Vega ?
TL;DR Is the vega worth the wait over the 5xx series ?

as always be diverse if possible. 2 builds one of 570's and one of vega could be a better choice. look into this motherboard https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813145007it allows 1,2,3,4 card builds 2 card with no risers.

The price point for Vega is rumored at 499/599$. Now unless one card hashes ETH at 50Mh/s, so let's say, what 2 RX4xx/5xx can do, the price of one vega card doesn't make it super interesting, unless you have loads of cash or have a nicely sized farm that has ROI'd already and you can play around, when you're a small time miner it doesn't look like a very good investment for a new rig, for now that is. Some think it'll drop the price on the RX series. My view is rather that everyone will keep purchasing RX cards because their cheaper, effectively drying up stocks just like we are seeing now.

No matter what it costs, it can still be interesting if you care about card density/performance and are limited to X number of cards you can run

Thank you for your input, I'll just stick with the 5xx series.
Mine away!

Hi! Does this motherboard require any flashing of BIOS or is it plug and play?

You can use the best option for gpu mining, like amd brand but of course it will use more power everytime we use it for mining

The results are in! According to the first benchmarks Vega FE seem to be very inefficient for ETH mining. Some reports say it is capable of 33 MH/s while using 300W or power. RX Vega (the gaming edition of the card) may follow the pattern. Whether this is a good or bad thing for mining is yet to be seen.

It wont, Vega will not do squat, even the ones with gddr5, you trolls should stop dreaming, gddr6 only on 2018 and that is what you stupid miners should wait for hehe, while I'm earning many times my investment buying and selling coins, you troll miners hope for 1x return hehe

We should wait until AMD release new drivers and the developers optimize their mining software. After that we can conclude if Vega is good or bad for mining.

I don't understand why anyone thinks the VEGA would have ever had better ETH hashrate. It uses HMB memory. The Fury/Nano has already shown that HMB is worse for ETH but FAR better for other algorithms such as ZEC. I'm more interested in the ZEC numbers.

It looks like it will be, with the already released Frontier version consuming almost 400W from the wall and staying bellow a 1080 nonTi, AMD just do not stop releasing crappy cards to the masses.

It's not crappy if it's priced right, if it's gonna be priced over 500-600€ with results like 1080 then yes I'll call it crappy too I would offer 400€ for rx vega...

Nice to hear that it wont be a killer. Maybe the gamers can stop whining about amd being out of stock and buy the vega instead.

There's no results yet that will ease the choice, that being said, rx580 8GB will be affected by the dag file in a shirt period of time ( don't tell anyone,it's a SECRET)so watch your ROI.

I expect 700-750H/s for zcash, which is really good if it comes at the lower pricepoint than the 1080 TI.

(1) poor ETH mining does not make the card "crappy" - that's like saying that a Formula 1 race car is "crappy" because it can't haul half a ton of stuff like a pickup. (2) The Frontier edition isn't intended for "the masses", it's a WORKSTATION card. (3) It's new enough that software hasn't been optimised for it yet.
