That is possible guys, i think that if someone invest $10k in 10 coins wich are below $0.50 at the moment, it can be turned into one million in a few years. It will only mean x10 in some years. It looks like it is too difficult, but i dont think it so.
The same scenario will happen if someone invest $1000 in one of those coins, that type of altcoins suddenly go up and make 20% - 40% at least at every dump.

The problem with that strategy is that, there are too many of them now.

It is like picking penny stocks. Or... picking lottery tickets. Same thing.

That's why I always prefer to be on the safest side with Bitcoin. It earns less but when things go bad, it also loses less.

Still, It is a great pleasure to watch the OP's winnings. If I wasn't a coward, I would follow him.  Grin

And another thing is, even the OP don't fuck with those shitcoins. He is still with relatively safer coins like LTC mostly. I can't even trust LTC.  Cheesy

I already use that, the code is something similar to this https://github.com/rathergood/Crypto-Currency-Price

But I can't find the better way to track the investments that I made in the long term. I still put the price that I buy manually and the market cap of the day.

I bought one 1 ethereum today. 7/9/2017 0.07085130 BTC $328.47 USD  $31,035,676,522 MCap

Would be cool see how others do this. =)

BTC and LTC are recovering steadily again so your portfolio is probably heading back towards $90k again, OP?

Btw, gotta agree with the comment above about the risks involved when hoarding dirt-cheap coins in the hope of hitting the next 100x coin. Most of them are garbage these days and picking well-established and promising crypto like BTC, LTC and Steem (like the OP does) seems like a wise move.

That's not impossible to happen because at the very beginning bitcoin is soaring higher and higher and get even more fame coming from people who have been investing for so many years now. That only proves that bitcoin could expand bigger and brighter future ahead of the industry wherever it may go. Consequently, that amount will go for more and the rest of the demands of people will continuously soaring high.

Perhaps not exactly "trading", but it just might be one of the shortest time frame investments you'll ever make.  Wink

How about a portfolio competition?

Using today’s price to establish opening position cost basis, the following portfolio has a minimum target of $100,000 (if everything goes wrong) and a maximum (still conservative) target of $1,000,000. (Explaining the reasons why goes beyond the scope of this friendly competition.)

Litecoin (LTC) – 50%
BitShares (BTS) – 10%
STEEM (STEEM) – 10%
Syscoin (SYS) – 10%
Nxt (NXT) – 10%
PIVX (PIVX) – 5%
NEM (XEM) – 5%

We’ll see how it does. Wish me luck!

Full Disclosure: I currently hold many of these issues as “long term” investments (but not all at this exact time since I’m still looking for a better entry on one in particular), and could purchase or sell any, at any time, and/or trade short term as well, with the weighting for this “model” portfolio being somewhat different from my own, where, for example, I am currently overweight LTC, BTS and PIVX.

No, it's a spammer who should be banned.

HR, not sure this question has been asked or answered before,  do you only trade on poloniex? Why don't you look on other exchanges, Bittrex as example? Bittrex have more variety and good altcoin than Poloniex

I'm new here and relatively new to cryptocurrencies and blockchain tech. Been doing a lot of research and I'm going to be putting some money into this via an IRA (So long term investment plan).

My plan right now is:

30% into BTC
30% into LTC
25% into ETH
7.5% into BTS
7.5% into SYS

Hold for approximately 10 years.

Theoretically it is a good plan but what if new cryptos come and overcome this which you listed innterms of technology and value? You should reevaluate your decisions once in a while so you can confortly hild

Sure...I won't totally ignore the market. What I'm throwing at this is between 10-15% of my current IRA holdings.

My assumption is that BTC, LTC and ETH are here to stay and will likely lead the market well into the future. BTS and SYS are my "high risk/high reward" bets.

Inspired by HR, I've decided to diversify my portfolio lol. Bought some altcoins with the dip today.

LTC - 37.4%
BTC - 20.9%
ETH - 17.7%
BTS - 5.4%
STEEM - 5.3%
OMG - 5.1%
QTUM - 4.1%
NEO - 4.1%

I'm not much of a trader at all, but I might do some rebalancing from time to time. Fingers crossed!

Nothing is impossibel to reach the profit. There is a need ofcourse to reevaluate in every trading that will made. In order to gain huge profit into Million with enough capital.

Do you still use Excel to track this portfolio? If so, How do you track the buy price when you make changes and sell something?

When something gets bought, it gets a credit and BTC a debit. When something gets sold, it gets a debit and BTC a credit. Prices are EOD and updated daily.

BTC and LTC are recovering steadily again so your portfolio is probably heading back towards $90k again, OP?

Until yesterday. Cheesy    …but the damage to the portfolio wasn’t as much as I had expected.

I haven't traded on Poloniex since the delisting scandal back in May. I'm working mainly with Bittrex and BitShares now, but also have accounts with Kraken and Cryptopia.

I'm not much of a trader at all, but I might do some rebalancing from time to time. Fingers crossed!

That makes two of us! Balanced portfolio risk management has really helped me a great deal and hopefully it'll do the same for you.

@everyone, Great to see your interest! But keep in mind that we are at some fairly lofty valuations, especially in BTC, and that we’ll probably see more interesting prices for new positions somewhere down the road. Not a big deal if you’ve just come from fiat since there are great hedging vehicles like BitUSD, SBD, and USDT in crypto for when the time comes.

Yes I agree with that having a goal to earn a million dollar is quite a hard thing to achieve and to do. As long as you will take time on giving effort in a form of you tradings. Just like how you will manage to invest a lot of money you should also invest time and management for you to have that big earning. You should take time to plan on both long term and short term trading.
Prepare your plans never waste your time, honestly almost time when I trading, I spend 80% time for prepare some plans and strategy with any situation can happening, because I think a thoughtful preparation always better than passive.
