Over the past couple of weeks, Bitcoin has been receiving an increase in media attention. It has been mentioned regularly by FOX news, NBC, CNBC and in magazines such as Time Magazine and the New York Times.
This can be mainly attributed to the crypto-currency’s increase in price. Bitcoin price has sky-rocketed and extrapolation of its growth shows that it will continue to increase till the momentous 2040. Moreover, the increase media attention should only increase the already amazing price.  This is because of the demand and supply paradox. Furthermore, I believe further online shops and even ‘physical’ shops would begin introducing Bitcoin, because of the spotlight that the media is shining on it. However, what could this media attention in terms of taxes and the governments? Will governments feel threatened by Bitcoin growth? Will they intervene? If Bitcoin becomes widely accepted, perhaps if it overtakes fiat, can the government find some way to enforce taxes?

Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

This is the sad thing about it. The main reason is attributed to the cryptocurrency’s increase in price. If the price incrased with just 5% it wouldn't be enough "swag" to be talked about. And still, the advantages of using it are not debated correctly.
You can tell me about 5000% incrase about something, but if i don't know what it is, then, i don't care a lot

This information is happy and sad. Bitcoin is more talked about by the media than it is a good thing, it will make the popularity of Bitcoin more and more widely known. But sadness here is that it only gets noticed when its price goes up so high, over $ 2,000, if Bitcoin does not have such a high price, will they pay more attention to it? I think the Government has paid more attention to Bitcoin. If BItcoin prices rise further I think they will intervene

They will tax it just like they tax  it now.
People will still need to work and get payed and companies will still have to write those payments down.

If you own a shop right now you can also sell under the counter, nobody is stopping you for trying.
Just like you can get caught now you will get caught using bitcoin payments.

if you think that with bitcoin everybody will avoid taxes you're deluding yourself.

Oh , and until we solve the 300k tx max a day , we won't have an increase in bitcoin payments.

It is good thing that Bitcoin is now receiving coverage of the mainstream media so that we can expect more and more people to get interested and also buy some Bitcoin. However, media have this cycle that after its honeymoon stage (where the subject is portrayed as very positive) you should expect that soon there would be some quarrels where the subject can be scrutinized and can be portrayed negative. Overall, however, this can mean good thing for Bitcoin.

You can look ar the negatives - Increased chance of getting taxed

Or

You can look ar the positives - Increased chance of mainstream adoption which means much higher price

The media is propagating information about bitcoin freely for us and it is a good thing. Some may get curious about bitcoin and the get started earning/buying. This will contribute to the rising demand for bitcoin and not to mention the price.

Some government are already imposing taxes on merchants that accepts bitcoin as a mode of payment. As far as I know, upon the acceptance of bitcoin in Japan, Japan also imposes taxes to it. Some businesses might have added the value added tax on their goods/services offered so tax in not a new thing.

I do not know if the government will impede with the growth of bitcoin, I don't even know how they will do it since bitcoin is intangible. No one controls it. The only thing the government can do is to ban it in their territory and that's all for it. Goodluck for them in monitoring their citizens if they are following the law or not.

Yes, bitcoin is trending on news and media these days. Coming to my nation particularly (India), there is increased discussion about bitcoin on news channels after demonetization. News channels are awaring the general folk of the country to go for bitcoin. As a result of which Indian government itself through its public relation site has asked suggestions about "legalisation or ban of bitcoin in India" from public.

The coverage from the mainstream media can make the path smooth for regulating Bitcoin in regions where it is not yet regulated. The taxes are natural with any currency. Unfair taxes are not good though.

Let us thank these media in giving free information about Bitcoin to the public. This will contribute to the growth of bitcoin. Also, it will contribute to the continuous rise of bitcoin's price. It will heightens the demand for bitcoin in the market so let us enjoy watching news about bitcoin Cool

I would not count on bitcoin surpassing fiat because this will never happen. The government will not allow such happenings. They will accept bitcoin but will not let it overtake fiat. The governments are already imposing tax on bitcoin especially on businesses that accepts bitcoin as a mode of payment.

Media attention is only a good thing. Bitcoin needs to become mainstream to be successful and this is the route to that.

With the big price surge that happened to bitcoin that really surprising and noticeable, it surely got the attention of some of the economist and mainstream media that's why it was featured in some of the news. At least in that way, bitcoin was being expose to those people who doesn't have an idea about what bitcoin is all about.

You know anything related to fiat thing will be obviously linked to bitcoin that's why expect lots of questions from those who doesn't understand. Rather than to answer them as don't mind the taxes or hold bitcoin because you will rich, tell them the technology about bitcoin and what is the benefit of using it. Tolding people to hold bitcoin to expect profit in the future can be considered as greed activity. Educate them instead the real reason why bitcoin was being made.

To be successful we definitely need to media to publish such good news about Bitcoin and shun from the negative propaganda that's mostly peddled around by self seeking individuals.

It's being taxed literally as we speak. All the Bitcoin payment processors are doing is using Bitcoin as a payment rail for fiat. That's taxed as usual. All the super gainers should be paying capital gains depending on their jurisdiction when they realise their profits, same as any other asset.

If you hadn't noticed there's this cheeky stuff called cash that allows you avoid tax. Anyone's welcome to avoid it too. They might not like what happens if The Man finds out about it.

It is expected! With the acceptance of Japan to bitcoin as money, and the current surge in price and a sudden crash, bitcoin will recieve a massive attention from media.  For them Bitcoin current performance is a headliner, making their article more interesting and at the same time triggers people interest about bitcoin.

We should not ignore those questions of people who doesn't understand, proper information should be fed to them and explain everything good about digital currency. This is now becoming viral to mainstream media and that's normal to have rumors circulating around the social media specially to the international news, and massiven information really helped a lot in terms of bitcoin adootion. For this effecr to people around the world, everyone who had full knowledge about bitcoin on how to earn should teach people and educate them for better purposes.

Yes the media attention is great and should actually create a demand for Bitcoin and a corresponding increase in its prices. Bitcoin has been in the media for the wrong reasons in recent times and so if the same media wants to hype its advantages I'm happy and support it.

I can see that media plays an important role in this industry as i can see on our local exchanger there were about 100k or so active member few years ago, now we've got more than 300k active members who regiestered out there this number has increased obviously because of spotlight of the bitcoin on the media. I'm just wondering is it good or distruction for us? since mostly they are speculators who just came to the bitcoin, hold untill they rich and dump the price. Anyway long time ago before bitcoin get famous our government had already taxed us for every single transaction that we made on that site.
