I would like to nominate Peter Vessenes (vess on the forum) for a scammer tag. The heavy selling in the days before the lawsuit was files was supicious. Then the filing just in time for The Golden Week in Japan when all banks there are closed. Coincidence? No way. And trying to heist 75 million USD from the largest and most important bitcoin exchange? Deserves a scammer tag if you ask me. No. Give him three scammer tags.

I really never gave peter vessenes much thought until recently. With the amount of hate and anger he gets on this board, it makes me think the guys gotta be doing something right!

Have a look at this, especially beginning of page 21, and seventh counterclaim and outwards from the end of page 39. If this, any of it, bear any resemblance to truth, it makes Peter Vessenes the worst thief and scammer in the history of Bitcoin. Forget the small fish like pirateat40. Peter Vessenes is the reason why you don't get your USD withdrawals from MtGox. He stole your deposits. $5,315,210.79 worth of deposits. I can't think of anyone who deserve a scammer tag more than vess.

21. One of the major issues, if not the major issue, that MtGox was concerned about was legal compliance on the part of CoinLab to conduct the Bitcoin exchange services in the United States that were being discussed by the parties during the negotiations. Early in the negotiations, that is, in approximately May and June 2012 discussions took place among CoinLab and MtGox representatives, including meetings in Japan and over “Skype” video conferencing.
In one or more of those early discussions Vessenes made statements to the effect that CoinLab was compliant with all laws and regulations relevant to conducting the Bitcoin exchange business that was the subject of the parties’ negotiations; and, that CoinLab was registered as a “prepaid access” provider and such was sufficient.
Vessenes refused to disclose or why this was the case even though requested by MtGox, claiming it to be a “trade secret”; and, that if it were disclosed MtGox would have no need for CoinLab. Based on such assurances, MtGox continued negotiations with CoinLab and ultimately entered into the Agreement. I desire to learn more of how ANY "trade secret" can circumnavigate federal laws. Once learnt, I have a slew of ideas I wish to manifest.

Page 21, the interesting part: Defendants are informed and believe that in March and April, 2013 MtGox customers, at the suggestion of CoinLab, deposited $12,788,701.08 in to one or more CoinLab bank accounts; CoinLab then caused the amount of such funds to be credited to such customers' MtGox accounts but CoinLab did not transfer the actual funds into the MtGox bank account. As a result, such customers' MtGox account reflected a higher amount of currency funds available to such customers than were actually in the MtGox bank account. In April, 2013, and upon the demand of MtGox, CoinLab transferred a portion of those amounts, $ 7,473,490.29, to the MtGox bank account, leaving a balance of approximately $ 5,315,210.79 to be transferred to the MtGox account and which is being wrongfully held by CoinLab.

I don't think scammer tags are being handed out anymore since the Trust system was implemented. You guys should leave your + or - ratings/feedback on the users Trust page.

This is a legal matter and we are not on the inside. I have talked with and met Peter in-person a number of times and I have enjoyed his company and he comes across as a smart and competent business man and entrepreneur. I don't believe this accusation has legs.

Strange. People who ate pizza with Pirateat40 said the same thing about him. Couldn't be a scam. He was a honest person all the way through. Some people didn't concede until months after he disappeared.

It certainly seems like a viable hypothesis to me that Peter Vessenes is first and foremost a grifter who targets dim witted and wealthy early adopters like Karpeles, Ver, etc for victimization. I mean if you look at the fallout of such things as the Bitcoinica adventure and the Coinlabs/Mt. Gox deal, a lot of money seems to have gone missing. If this is indeed the case it will be interesting to see if the Winkle dudes avoid taking a hit.

Yeah what a mess. Ver keeps getting caught up in shit like this but i honestly think he is trying to do the best for btc. Vess i had thought was a scammer from the start. Ya, now I feel bad about being so mean to Ver. He really has done a lot for the ecosystem, he is one of the more capable spokesmen, and I cannot really remember anything he's done which is dishonest or negative (except for getting ripped off repeatedly which looks bad.) Sorry Roger. Your efforts are appreciated even by dickheads like me who don't share your political views.
