just wondering what people's thoughts are on the Bitmain L3+ I had a response from Bitmain asking about shipping, which they said would commence after Aug 28th.

Most calculators I've tried put these unit's in to the profitable range rather than hobbyist.

I've been out of mining for a bit and more in to trading. Do folks think these are a good bet?

I presume you need a power supply to go with them too? I can probably manage 2 of them but I really am looking for a return. It's winter here in New Zealand so if they make good heaters - even better Smiley

Thanks for any advice

They certainly are profitable, some of the batch 1 l3+ have broken even in under a month

The problem is there is a new batch every single month until yours would arrive and all of those batches (and they are big BitMain mass produced batches) are going to whack up the difficulty big time

I think that by the tim August comes around they will be earning pennies on the pound... BitMain just pump them out too fast

This is probably why their August batch is still in stock; not enough people have forecast enough profitability to go ahead and preorder them

waiting 60 days  for gear is a long time.  raises risk factors quite a bit.

for the life of me I find it really hard to understand  why you want it vs a gpu rig.

I can get parts and build this rig below by monday.  it earns 23 dollars a day  mining zec at nicehash.

It cost

 1300  2 1080 ti's on sale
   349  1 1070
   108  1 gigabyte mobo
   100  1 psu
     30  1 stick of ram
     60  1 cpu

1947  total

it earns 20 a day mining  zec
it earns 26 a day mining  skein

so in 60 days  1 have 1200 to 1560 back -  120 for power   so  say 1080 back.

and you are waiting on  the august shipping

Thanks philipma1957 - sounds like a GPU rig is probably a better option then Smiley

I thought AMD cards were better for mining or can you get good results on a PC with Nvidia? I've not found I'm able to get very good results with Mac OS GTX980 and a Quadro M4000.

It's my main work computer but I was just testing the water to see what it could do.
