I can confirm from someone I know that bitcoins were indeed bought at the $0.01 price based on a standing bid that had been there. These coins were then transferred out of mtgox for obvious reasons and have showed up in the wallet, so they're real.

I guess any standing orders at the low prices were filled if they were "first in line at X price" and trade did occur, and the coins are real.

The question is, whose coins were sold at $0.01?

your limited to withdrawing $1,000 worth of bitcoins a day

I've had success withdrawal more than that as long as I do multiple withdrawal requests. Each one spit back at my "limit reached" but I was able to do several successive withdrawals with no problems.

wtf, if that's true, it puts GREAT confidence in mtgox' overall website security.

I think someone hacked mtgox,  selling all BTC from everyone's accounts
Yep, I think it's good time to sell after all

No, actually it's a good time to hold. But sell if you want, I'll add your underpriced coins to my collection Wink

No, it's a good time to remove all $ and Btc you have a mt Gox and hope it arrives at least. Trying to withdraw now, but it doesn't work... Not panicking though, probably just too many people trying to do the same.

I could move my coins I had
i had an open buy at $1 and it got filled.  made about $200k assuming bitcoins stay where they are around $10, crazy shit.  Should I transfer my coins to an external wallet?

Holy jesus, so people did make out. Can you verify that these are legit bitcoins that you can move out to an external wallet?

moving them now...

edit: no wait, mt gox is limiting my daily withdrawal

I call bullshit.

I couldn't withdraw my coins  I had from before, and now the the site is down... Let's see how they will solve this. Anybody know anything about the guys behind Mt gox? Are they bitcoin entusiasts or just in for a quick buck? That will probably determine how they handle this. If some people actually managed to buy for less than 5$ or even less then 1$, that means lots of sellers were robbed, just look at the charts from the other markets. How will they handle sells that went through? Especially problematic for those who, understanding it was a glitch, bought as much as possible and then withdrew it to their client. How will they handle that? Anybody managed to buy and withdraw? was it a hacker or a major bug perhaps triggered buy a huge real selloff?

Thats true, he's smart enough to access a 500k account but didn't notice the withdrawal limit?

And why generate so much awareness dumping everything at the same time?

looks like the problem is much smaller than expected.  But it is interesting to know there are people keeping 100k+ worth of coins on mtgox. I really think they need to rethink this.

They probably freaked out at their success. Young and inexperienced. That's the scary part.
