Yes I am against the government's control on the bitcoin but still I want it to be legalized so that it would help the government to build a good economic infrastructure to deal with the crypto currencies and it will also help the bitcoin companies to market their goods and services. However, I don't want government to hold my bitcoins in any form (even through the medium like banks). The core principle of bitcoin is to keep it out of control of the third party.

Would Satochi be in Support of Regulation? Are you in support or against?
Many countries like china and russia tried to ban bitcoin earlier but they failed to do so and started to regulate bitcoin. Its a good progress. They have accepted bitcoin indirectly by regulating bitcoin. But bitcoin is totally decentralized. So no one would be able to control bitcoin.

Im somehow against it but either way if government decided to regulate bitcoin then its not mine to concern. In our country government are more onto socializing and building economy than technology aspects, so it just means it will take longer for our government to finally get their attentions regarding bitcoins.

My stance has always been that Governments can (and probably should) regulate any third party services that are "trusted" to store customers' funds.  But the underlying protocol itself is self-regulating and the introduction of a controlling central entity can only weaken it:

Quote
Should the Bitcoin protocol be regulated?

In short, no.  Every so often, someone calls for Bitcoin to be centrally regulated by a trusted body in the mistaken belief that it would help prevent scams, thefts and frauds.  Although it sounds like a good idea, this is actually a dangerous line of thinking and could potentially jeopardise Bitcoin's future.

Bitcoin is designed as a transaction between two people, without relying on a trusted third party.  Any attempt to add regulation to the protocol would introduce a controlling third party, which could potentially block, freeze or otherwise restrict transactions.  This would damage Bitcoin's fungibility and could break the currency as a whole.  Once a regulator has control, there is nothing to stop them doing what they like.  There's also no evidence to suggest that central regulation would in fact lessen the number of thefts or scams.

People who ask for Bitcoin to be centrally regulated are generally considered to have misunderstood the fundamental concept of the Bitcoin network.  Bitcoin is decentralised by design, as this guarantees it being neutral, incorruptible and secure.

I believe having the government behind bitcoin has pros and cons. The government could regulate it and stop scammers. But on the other hand the government could also reduce its value and somehow pry in people's accounts.

Also governments are different everywhere and bitcoin is universal. The US government may be okay with managing the accounts of US Citizens, but i personally would not be comfortable with my irresponsible, lazy and corrupted government regulating bitcoin.

I think if government's contribution to bitcoin will bring more fruitful changes to bitcoin development and security would require support from bitcoiners, but if government's presence in bitcoin will only benefit from bitcoin income alone and without bringing about beneficial changes, I think this Need to be considered again.

I'm not against government regulating bitcoins provided that they won't be abusing it by placing high amount of tax.I had faith that the governing body in my country will do what is just and be reasonable on giving tax which would be expected since regulating includes placing on of those. I just pray that those corrupt government officials won't be abusing this one which would be the single reason for me to disagree on government managing bitcoins.

There will be no difference between bitcoin and fiat/bank if it will be regulated. Bitcoin was developed to give financial freedom and if it will be regulated there will be tax imposed and all of your bitcoin transactions will be monitored. Bitcoin will loss all its charms, so no I am not in support of government regulation on bitcoin.

Amen to that !  I understood bitcoin's dream was dead when people were enjoying "regulation".

nobody can tax your bitcoin transactions the same way they can not tax the cash in your pocket!
but when you go to the bank and put it there, or when you go to the shops and start buying things you pay the price
there is no need for thinking it is any different with bitcoin!

There is a FOMO brewing...

I really do not like government trying to regulate bitcoin but with all the ICO and scams we are seeing and the amount of money they are raising,it is high time somethings should be done to regulate all those things, but regulating should have an emphasis on illegal market rather than regulating what bitcoin stands for.

My position didn't change to this point and stayed cold. Don't understand why do we need government's regylation in the point of crypto currencies at all?! To let to all this politicians to fill their pokets and wallets with crypto currencies too, cause of to helf fiat wealth is not enough for them anymore? We go good without any government's control and regulation, don't we? I think we do.

I do not care if my government regulate or not regulate bitcoin.  I cannot do anything if they do regulate bitcoins anyway.  I will just do what I think will not break my government law while involving myself to bitcoin.  And if they ban bitcoin probably that will be the time I will not abide my government law and will keep on using Bitcoin.
Maybe for other government can be a hindrance to the further development of bitcoin. Why? because i see government as a power seeker where they want to have power and access to a particular before they accept it on other term legal matters. And I also do not see yet  the movement of the government to get into bitcoin as well so i do not mind also the possibilities. But in some aspect we should also think if it will happen beause changes may also come up on that situation.

Honestly our government have already regulated bitcoin, about two years ago or so if i'm not wrong. Well it is not allowed for us to pay for something within the country using any other currency other than our official currency not bitcoin not even dollar, but we can still using bitcoin since they only regulate bitcoin as payment system or currency not as a stock that's why there are more traders than actual Bitcoin users here. Using bitcoin as a currency it's kind of criminal and you'll get punished according to the law.

If a government act in good faith and do what is best for their voters, then there will not be problems. Most of these governments are not doing

this and corruption and war mongering are their primary goal. A lot of this has to do with control .... control over people's finances and private

life. I would much rather have Bitcoin in a position where it helps to prevent corruption, than having it over regulated to give corrupt governments

more control.  Angry

If a country forbid the use of bitcoin, then it is against the law without a doubt and you could land in serious trouble for doing so,with time more countries will understand  the simplicity and the technology behind bitcoin and they will regulate bitcoin but i really doubt they could control it.

For me, It's a big no! I don't support government regulation for bitcoin and one of the main reason why I like bitcoin is that it is not controlled by any entities, so we can do transactions without worrying about any third party. Governments are still trying to do whatever they can so that they can get a hold of bitcoin and control it at someway.
