Have you tried localbitcoins?
You don't have to do a face to face deal. There are people selling that accepts bank transfers.

But use it only for small amounts. It doesn't sound like you are a trader though, so why the rush?

Bank transfer to Dwolla to CampBX has been working ok for me (usually takes about 3 days for the whole process).

Good to know.  I've setup an account with Dwolla to use with Mt Gox, but until Mt Gox verifies my account it's no use there.

CampBX is a new exchange?

Not sure-- I think they've been operating for about a year.

I've wondered about localbitcoins too, if you live in a populated area you might be able to do a face to face cash for bitcoins exchange.

I was even able to show my 75 year old mother how to use CoinBase.

Do you have a bank account?

Yes. American even. But I've read bad things about coinbase on reddit. You have successfully used it?

I have succesfully used it to buy 1 BTC just to test it.

I helped a buddy at work buy 1 BTC as well. Buying large amounts seems to be the difficulty. I used MtGox for that.

First seastead company actually selling sea homes: Ocean Builders https://ocean.builders  Of course we accept bitcoin.
