To collect everything in one thread (and possibly help with the wikipedia effort), would the community be willing to post URLs to the thread, of notable sources or "press hits" (mentions in the press somewhere)? "notable" is a loose definition that just means exercise common sense: a mention from a blogger with 1000 hits/month is not notable, nor is your average forum post, nor is anything that gives an obvious impression of bitcoin community self-promotion. Let's start off with... 1) Bitcoin: A Peer-to-peer Electronic Cash System Author: Satoshi Nakamoto, bitcoin inventor http://www.bitcoin.org/bitcoin.pdf2) Bitcoin: Virtual money created by CPU cycles Author: Nathan Willis, LWN https://lwn.net/Articles/414452/3) Imagine your computer as a wallet full of Bitcoins Author: Danny O'Brien, Irish Times http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2010/1126/1224284180416.html4) Bitcoin Electronic Currency: The Future of Money Author: Elliott A. Prechter, www.elliottwave.com (Sept. 2010 issue) http://www.bitcoinblogger.com/2010/09/bitcoin-electronic-currency-future-of.html5) Bitcoin Releases Version 0.3 Author: a random slashdot contributor; notable because this brought a large influx of new bitcoin users http://news.slashdot.org/story/10/07/11/1747245/Bitcoin-Releases-Version-036) LINKS: 12 JULY 2010 Author: John Robb, influential author and thinker (see impressive bio) http://globalguerrillas.typepad.com/globalguerrillas/2010/07/links-12-july-2010.html[sirius-edit: Please contribute to the Bitcoin press hits wiki page.]

"What are Bitcoins?" http://quezi.com/13527a mention from a blogger with 1000 hits/month is not notable
I wrote that piece. It is a multi-author blog with some degree of editorial oversight and 50,000 hits per month. Not fantastically notable, but more so that Joe Average's "What I ate for dinner" blog.

While a bit older, this article is certainly worthy of inclusion for a list of "notable" articles about bitcoins: http://www.hartfordadvocate.com/commentary/is-it-time-for-digital-only-dollars-2Responding to discussions about blogs, the main concern about blogs is the self-published nature, where at least in theory you can make stuff up out of whole cloth that may or may not be factually correct. Usually if there is some sort of editorial review process which goes on, where at least somebody other than the original author generally looks at the article before it is "published" and does some "fact checking", a review of sources, and polishes up the content in some way (traditionally called an editor in newpaper and book publishing industries) it can be considered a reliable source. LWN.net certainly qualifies here as does this above article. There are some "blogs" that have status as a reliable source because they put some substantial effort to get quality information and generally can be considered a "news source". If I catch verbatim copying of content from somewhere else, I consider one or more of those sites (perhaps all of them) with identical content to be of dubious quality and generally worth ignoring. istockanalyst.com is a site that I consider of especially dubious nature especially if they are copying the whole article and ignoring copyright altogether. In that case, there is a reference to the original article (sort of good) but no link to the original content at all. I'm presuming that the purpose of all of this is to collect stuff for the Wikipedia article. I'm glad to seem some more "mainstream" sources of information about Bitcoins, and I hope that this trend continues. It would be useful anyway to put something off from the main page of the Bitcoins website that perhaps lists these sites as a sort of "Bitcoins in the News", as it would be useful for visitors to the site and people trying to learn about the software know that it is getting some sort of outside press coverage. BTW, I love the bitcoinblogger website and it certainly serves a good niche within the Bitcoin community, and as such deserves recognition within the Bitcoins community in general as an "honorable mention" of major sources of information about Bitcoins.

I'm not sure whether this site counts as notable, but it was tagged in news.ycombinator.com thus will generate traffic: http://www.istockanalyst.com/article/viewiStockNews/articleid/4697943

Another interesting source surfaced that certainly would be of interest to Bitcoin users, and it shows that the word about this project is getting out there: http://www.thejakartapost.com/news/2010/08/31/power-the-people.htmlThe preface to the article is particularly interesting, although it sort of implies that nobody is creating anything new on the internet anymore.

Bitcoin press links: http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/finance/2010/1126/1224284180416.htmlBitcoin is on The Morning Show Featuring Patrick Timpone, Bruce Wagner Bitcoin 1. The New Digital Money - Bitcoin with Bruce Wagner - 12-02-10 (Money/Finance - Podcasts/The Economy) http://www.oneradionetwork.com/money%10finance_-_podcasts/the_economy/the_new_digital_money_-_bitcoin_with_bruce_wagner_-_12-02-10_201012021972/ You have to dig a bit for this one but it's good Let me explain something lady and gents. My job is to provide positive exposure for digital currency products like Bitcoin. On July 31, 2010 someone I know posted to a list I read, that Wikipedia had dropped the listing because of no third party.... Here is the link to that post. http://blog.gmane.org/gmane.comp.finance.gold-silver-crypto/day=20100731 [gsc] Wikipedia deleted the entry on Bitcoin 2010-07-31 02:14:10 GMT The paymaster of the Wiki gang must have got the order from the banksters. How corrupt can the world become? Now, my magazine publishes generally in the first 4-5 days of each month. It's free to anyone who wants to read it and on August 1, I already had a nice cover and there was no articles on Bitcoin. After I read the post above, I decided to try and provide some Bitcoin coverage so I changed the cover giving it to Bitcoin and provided some quick cut n paste promotional material from a hour or two touring of webs online. All the referenced material has links and credit was provided to anything used. That's not plagiarism. Plagiarism is stealing someone's content and calling it your own. Hey kiba, "Somebody should notify DGMagazine that their plagiarism make for a poor article. It's highly disjointed." ...No kidding !!! How'd you like to work for us and be an editor, you have a keen insight for the obvious. The cover of the issue plus the quickee article should well satisfy Wikipedia. That was my intention, sorry if we disappointed you with our cut n paste literary skills. I have a very large original paper (60pgs) on the digital currency industry publishing next week and it has a section on Bitcoin. After next week, if no one does it before me, I'll get back to Wikipedia and work to get it back up. One final note for all of you (especially ribuck), DGCmagazine starts our 4th year in January and we have NEVER charged for advertisements or articles. Ads are free of charge to all industry or related businesses and anyone can write an article for inclusion in our issues. Ads have always been free. You email any company in there and you will find all ads are free. The magazine does NOT generate any monthly income for me or anyone and it will remain that way. Do you have a business that deals in Bitcoin? Let us run an ad for you. It's no cost and that is a related business....what are you waiting for...free industry promotion you can't find a more direct place to advertise? So if you are hot-an-heavy for Bitcoin why don't you write an article on why you love it or how about this, write a monthly column for us on any aspect of Bitcoin and I'll publish you each month. Come one, time to nut-up or shut-up. You like Bitcoin, we like Bitcoin, get busy and come up with some monthly material and we'll promote it as that is THE thing to do. Work with us to expand Bitcoin's market that is all of our goals. I'm perhaps the easiest guy on the Internet to reach, 24/7 editor@dgcmagazine.com skype "digitalcurrency" Twitter @dgcmagazine

Hi Mark,
Glad you could make it. No hard feelings I hope. I have a proposition for you that would allow us to settle on the closure of open2exchange. I know that's getting to be a long time ago, but it would be better to settle than to write off. Are you amenable to discussion?
I hope you are well after your ordeal. The way I feel today, I worry that my turn is coming soon.
I rarely miss an issue of your rag.
cheers!
Shane
