Bitcoin press hits, notable sources

To collect everything in one thread (and possibly help with the wikipedia effort), would the community be willing to post URLs to the thread, of notable sources or "press hits" (mentions in the press somewhere)?

"notable" is a loose definition that just means exercise common sense:  a mention from a blogger with 1000 hits/month is not notable, nor is your average forum post, nor is anything that gives an obvious impression of bitcoin community self-promotion.

I wrote that piece. It is a multi-author blog with some degree of editorial oversight and 50,000 hits per month. Not fantastically notable, but more so that Joe Average's "What I ate for dinner" blog.

Responding to discussions about blogs, the main concern about blogs is the self-published nature, where at least in theory you can make stuff up out of whole cloth that may or may not be factually correct.  Usually if there is some sort of editorial review process which goes on, where at least somebody other than the original author generally looks at the article before it is "published" and does some "fact checking", a review of sources, and polishes up the content in some way (traditionally called an editor in newpaper and book publishing industries) it can be considered a reliable source.

LWN.net certainly qualifies here as does this above article.  There are some "blogs" that have status as a reliable source because they put some substantial effort to get quality information and generally can be considered a "news source".  If I catch verbatim copying of content from somewhere else, I consider one or more of those sites (perhaps all of them) with identical content to be of dubious quality and generally worth ignoring.  istockanalyst.com is a site that I consider of especially dubious nature especially if they are copying the whole article and ignoring copyright altogether.  In that case, there is a reference to the original article (sort of good) but no link to the original content at all.

I'm presuming that the purpose of all of this is to collect stuff for the Wikipedia article.  I'm glad to seem some more "mainstream" sources of information about Bitcoins, and I hope that this trend continues.  It would be useful anyway to put something off from the main page of the Bitcoins website that perhaps lists these sites as a sort of "Bitcoins in the News", as it would be useful for visitors to the site and people trying to learn about the software know that it is getting some sort of outside press coverage.

BTW, I love the bitcoinblogger website and it certainly serves a good niche within the Bitcoin community, and as such deserves recognition within the Bitcoins community in general as an "honorable mention" of major sources of information about Bitcoins.

It only tangentially talks about Bitcoins, but it does provide a reference to the main site (yea!) The implication is that the Euro and the Dollar are likely to collapse requiring something different to take their place.  All stuff talked about on these forums, but I have no idea who this french fanboi is that loves Bitcoins.  If this is a regular reader here on this forum, I'd love to give you kudos.

Now, my magazine publishes generally in the first 4-5 days of each month. It's free to anyone who wants to read it and on August 1, I already had a nice cover and there was no articles on Bitcoin. After I read the post above, I decided to try and provide some Bitcoin coverage so I changed the cover giving it to Bitcoin and provided some quick cut n paste promotional material from a hour or two touring of webs online. All the referenced material has links and credit was provided to anything used. That's not plagiarism. Plagiarism is stealing someone's content and calling it your own.

Hey kiba,  "Somebody should notify DGMagazine that their plagiarism make for a poor article. It's highly disjointed." ...No kidding !!! How'd you like to work for us and be an editor, you have a keen insight for the obvious.  The cover of the issue plus the quickee article should well satisfy Wikipedia. That was my intention, sorry if we disappointed you with our cut n paste literary skills.

I have a very large original paper (60pgs) on the digital currency industry publishing next week and it has a section on Bitcoin.  After next week, if no one does it before me, I'll get back to Wikipedia and work to get it back up.

An article in pcworld is huge. The recent wikileaks fiasco means a lot of people are searching for mainstream banking alternatives. Bitcoin is the obvious choice, even though satoshi has reservations about it.
