It's the same in Germany, you can't carry a knife. In some countries only spring loaded knives are banned, which is also ridiculous. I think it's still a law in the USA, that you can't carry a spring loaded (automatic) knife, but you can carry a spring assisted knife. For those not interested in knives, there's basically no difference in the size, opening speed and damage you can do between those two types.
