Blockchain download

Would it be beneficial to anyone if I were to host a download/torrent of the entire blockchain on a super fast connection?  I recently found that it would not download/took forever on my local machine so I downloaded it on a fast cloud machine and copied it to my local machine.

Of course if would be beneficial. The problem is that people tend to attack those hosting Bitcoin torrents.

You'll get the quickest uptake if you trim your bottstrap.dat to the exactly same height as the torrent posted there on May 30th. That torrent already has at least 10 leechers.

It would require people to trust that you are providing them the correct blockchain. If they were to verify the blockchain after downloading it from you, it wouldn't be anymore help than you hosting a node on that server and people just connecting to your node too.

I think he meant that he verifies the Blockchain using his cloud instance and hosts the whole directory for people to download. Since it is preverified, people don't have to verify it themselves and it saves A LOT of time.
Other than the security concerns, it isn't feasible for you since it will consume a whole lot of bandwidth and its exposed to attacks too. Bootstrap.dat doesn't make the synchronization much faster than before either.

If i am understanding this correctly, if it is hosted on a cloud and pre-verified by you, wouldn't people have to then download/transfer it off the cloud to have on their computer which would take up a relatively equal amount of time then if they were just to download it themselves?

If they were to synchronize it themselves, it can take more time since the client also needs to verify each block individually.

This helps the people who have weaker hardware and aren't willing to spend more time and resources for it to synchronize. Its unsafe to download the blockchain without verifying it yourself though.

I paid someone $1 to get a link to download the whole blockchain on my EC2 server before. But the funny it's, it costs me a few hundred dollars to pay Amazon.
