I don't think there exist any competition between Dogecoin and bitcoin. Bitcoin is master of all cryptocurrencies and others are just complementary to it. Whether take spread or awareness or real use, bitcoin beat all others coins.
However, there exist one glitch and that is fees. If bitcoin couldn't able to solve fees issue soon then dogecoin may overtook it as its fees is too low.

Obvious it's Bitcoin. Bitcoin was the first Crypto-Currency, price is more volatile, traders, investors, holders like it.

Dogecoin is a stable currency, price doesn't change very much, maybe that is why there are people using Dogecoins yet, because they want to keep their money in a stable currency... I can't imagine any other reason to use Dogecoin, maybe to gamble too, but only this.

Dogecoin was indeed a fun idea , had a strong user base but in the end it was a just a fad.

It caused a ruckus, it cause a hyperinflation of trolls and meme but in the end... it's just went in the basement with the other failed coins.
Profitable? Let's be serious.

Bitcoin is for lovely secure transactions on a fairly mature cryptocurrency.  DOGE is good for low fees.
It's extremely interesting how much people love ETH for its "low fees", even though you can send DOGE for less than a cent.  Just goes to show that it's more about marketing than actual practicality as a currency.

Its like comparing bitcoin with USD with the somalian currency. Bitcoin is the first raised digital money and people are widely using the bitcoin from 4 years and more as of now. If you see in cost aspect also bitcoin is always top than Dodge any other altcoin as well.
For trading you could prefer Dodge or ETH but for overall aspects bitcoin is always top and will top in future too.

Doge is accepted for payment barely anywhere. Doge has only become not a joke recently as it's seen a bump. It's a meme!

A better comparison is Bitcoin vs. Litecoin - and we should get specific, it's not about the past but which coin has the best prospect for percentage growth over the next year.

Nearly all alt coins have a better chance of doubling pricing within the next years than Bitcoin...BUT...I never thought (back in January) that we'd be nearly touching $3000 mid-way through this year.

A more important discussion would be why the alt coins are getting such attention? Do they provide better use as a currency than bitcoin or better security? IF so, can anyone direct us to a good summary of these characteristics of each alt crypto-currrency?

I do not consider this coin to be promising either. It exists long ago but its price remains low. I do not even know who is using it. There are other altcoins that are more promising than Doge

Ofcourse bitcoins it is the master of all cryprocurrency or we may say the tr founder of other alt coins. For now bitcoins are the most popular because of it's value but the fee is a little bit high but i think soon doge will surpass bitcoin because of it's low fee, no one knows what happnens in the market i hope doge will increase it's value but the fee stays low if that happens maybe doge will surpass the bitcoins.

Bitcoin has the power of anonymous which gives more chance of profit not just like dogecoin.
Bitcoin Starts like a dogecoin before and has a low price also stability of price, it just need time to bloom, and we must predict it if we don't like same as what happened on the man who spent bitcoin for pizza, and missed the opportunity.

i think we should not compare both bitcoin and Dogecoin. even bitcoin cannot be compare with any other active coin. but still i will like to say that if some one have some extra money and he want to do investment, he should put some money in Dogecoin, because no one know about the future and may be after some time Dogecoin get its position back, but still we cannot compare bitcoin to Dogecoin. bitcoin is the best option in present situation.
