Why not trade bitcoin ? if you can't make money trading BTC , you will not make money trading ETH or any other currency , trading is not gambling  . You need to have a good trading strategy , a good risk management = ratio risk/reward

Imo both are very risky investments but btc is safer and has just as much potential upside. Personally I think the whole crypto market is overvalued at the moment though. That being said, I'm bullish long term.

And for what reason? They are both tradable you will just waste your time if you do that, and in fact the majority of exchange sites volume is higher with btc than eth so why trade your btc to eth if you are going to trade it for another coin too so that was senseless.

Doing this at the time of an all time high probably would just increase your risk. ETH started with a presale where 2k ETH would go on sale for one bitcoin. Obviously the speculative bubble has pushed its price further than that but it certainly wouldn't last forever.

There are many good altcoins.  Ethereum is not one of them.

High and rising transaction fees, centralisation happening rapidly, developers are bastards...

It feels like a good concept but they're not implementing it well.  If you want a good altcoin, buy ETC or one of many others (Byteball or IOTA for example).

If I were you I'd hold BTC long term, others are mainly short term investments.

You don't have to do that, for trade use only 60% to buy eth, not all. BTC and ETH have different market & pattern, you can make profit with them. Never buy only one coin, unless you have a lot of money and use long time period strategy. But if you're only day trader, just split your money with some coins. I believe eth price action make you interesting to buy it, but this is real market, no one knows the price tomorrow. We can only predict and do some discipline strategy to make profit. Be careful with your money and good luck.

Oh, I never thought someday I am going to see ETH overshadowing BTC but here we are today. Due to steep rise in BTC fees and increased ICOs in terms of ETH, ETH present demand is more than BTC. I think trend going to be same for next few months too as there are some strong icos going out.
So I will suggest you to change BTC in ETH and enjoy conditional profits.

I'm at the point where I prefer to invest 75% ETH and 25% BTC, but the only problem is that still BTC is needed to buy most altcoins. Once ETH becomes a base-coin in all the exchanges, then ETH will skyrocket even more.

The only scenario where I could see Ethereum being useful at the moment is investing into ICOs. Developers are no longer making coins from scratch, instead they are using ETH to make the ERC20 Tokens and most of the time, these ICOs only accept Ethereum because It makes the developers job kinda easier If they ever need to distribute dividends or something for example. A part from that, I would suggest holding bitcoin for the long term, just because Ethereum is increasing right now, doesn't mean It's going to reach the moon.

Worst decision one can ever make. Why are you asking? Are you afraid of Aug1 event? If so, you better sell your coins for FIAT because if things go bad, ETH will also have some losses.  

Can you make any money by switching to eth? Who knows, maybe. If i were to change horses, I would get monero instead of eth.

Eth is incredibly shady and most of its supply was premined. Only a handful of eth was actually mined. That raises serious suspicions about its trustworthiness and I don't invest my hard earned money in something I don't trust.

I personally would not do that,i would instead mine ETH than invest in it.At the end everyone wants to hold bitcoin and that is the truth,we have hundreds on alt coins but in the end everyone will be converting it to bitcoin and that is my thought process as i do not see any long term incentives in all the other coins.

but i think in current position short term investment can be more risky as compare to long term investment, for short term investment you must have good experience, and if you do not have any experience in short term investment then it is more risky and you can even lose your own investment, because some time the price fell down and in such situation you have to take a quick decision and you can take a quick decision if you have good experience there in short term investment.
