Would Bitcoin ending up like Yahoo in the future?

Yahoo was the first (?) search engine at the time when Internet started.  It was the pioneer in its field.  In the late 90's its market cap reached to a high closed to $120B.   Three and a half years after Yahoo started, Google came out and gradually took away market share from Yahoo.

After 22 years, Verizon bought it for $4.8B.  Would Bitcoin ending up like Yahoo in the future and got beat up by new competitions?

What do you think?  Please provide your reason(s) to support your view.

I don't think bitcoin would end up like yahoo because bitcoin has a lot of difference compared to yahoo. Bitcoin is more powerful than yahoo yet, it has more supporter hence, it will never obsolescent. Yeah though some coins are failed but bitcoin is different from them. Therefore, bitcoin would never be end up like yahoo.

There is no proper statement to make bitcoin and Yahoo under comparison. The technology behind bitcoin is adoptable for several sectors whereas the Yahoo is a systematic search engine which gained popularity of a sudden and got down in value when the competence from Google went big. Still Yahoo is used, so bitcoin gets used forever even when something grow equal to it.

Could possibly happen since more and more people are supporting alts that has added features from bitcoin. Also, big companies are eyeing these alts and are integrating them into their services just like bitcoin. It's just a matter of which coin does the public supports and it could go anywhere from there.

But in the next 20 or so years, I don't think bitcoin would have some serious competition, not even ETH.

I think our mean about cryptocurrency have many mistake, example when satoshi creating Bitcoin and Blockchain, why in first time he don't call Bitcoin is digital cash but call it with name cryptocurrency? Because digital cash in future surely control by government and it not is currency as aspiration of satoshi for all user control and not have any personal can control it.

I do not know how the future of bitcoin is, but I do not think it would be like a dead yahoo left by its customers, I still believe that bitcoin will get better in its future and have the best future.

Yeah, I think Yahoo and Bitcoin have same similiarity, early birth people underestimate about them. But time will tell what happen because they are pionier and have superiority in market. But I still don't see the "competitor" show up in next couple years.

A real competitor will be hard to come by because Bitcoin has already established some acceptances by people and countries.  But if a coin, such as Litecoin for example, which can process transactions quickly and with very low fees (and allows very low cost microtransactions), it may also starts to gain acceptance.  Once that happened, Bitcoin may be replaced partially or mostly (but probably not complete).

the pioneer indeed not always success , bitcoin itself aren't the first cryptocurrency ever created afaik there's a cryptocurrency launched around 1998 called b-money or something i guess. it's might a little bit misconception. however the phenomenon of competitor product become more successful and replace the pioneer are rarely happened. so far i still can't see a big sign it would happened in bitcoin too.

But this will be very bad if bitcoin is controlled by government coffers, although this sounds odd. But we can change the function of bitcoin at the start of its formation by, switching the bitcoin function to the beginning and changing the mind of the people that bitcoin is the digital currency

I can't see the ground to compare these two. Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and how will develope, how much will it be worth, acceped etc. depends on totaly different conditions then those which affected Yahoo and I can't see the connection. Future can't be predicted but Bitcoin has all good starting points to be more and more successful in the future and to become a currency that everyone will have and do business with.

i think i will be positive thinking about cryptocurrency especially with bitcoin. in future, cryptocurrency will give a good influence to all people around the world so they know that cryptocurrency can be used for many purpose. and if we are talking with big company like yahoo, google, facebook, and the other, maybe in future, yahoo will get good affect of cryptocurrency too.

Yahoo was neglected. In Poland, yahoo has never been popular, even in the beginning. Potential damage. BTC is very long in 1 place. Just look at the price. Total Market Cap: BTC = $ 44,385,969,960 and ETH = $ 20,232,690,613

I think anything is possible. With this new BCC currency who knows what could happen. If Bitcoin continues to have issues with forking maybe another coin will replace it. Bitcoin 2 !! xD It would be the next Bitcoin really.

There have actually be various of different crypto currencies invented in the 1990s and 2000s that failed due to them all having a centralized model. Bitcoin is the first coin to solve this problem of decentralization.

I had not thought about it much, but as soon as I saw your thread I looked up the stock price for Yahoo. It closed yesterday at $48 per share. I think that Yahoo, while you may have picked it for a different reason is a really good example about future Bitcoin. Most people talk about Yahoo in reference to a failed business, how Yahoo has a search engine started out at the same time as many others and is virtually gone.

Anything is possible so it's a yes, if and only if, the management team behind bitcoin feels overconfident. Overconfidence, in the business world, is arrogance. It results to bankruptcy.

Any business is unpredictable. The success rate always fluctuates. If bitcoin focuses too much on making hasty decisions inside their own kingdom, ethereum might overtake them without them knowing. Yahoo is a was to Google now just like My Space to Facebook.

Never count Bitcoin out. It's still a growing supernova, right?

Yes , there is always a chance for that to happen. Yahoo was considered the best search engine in the past . But now Google has taken over yahoo. Bitcoin is also the best right now but it can be replaced by ethereum or any other crypto currency. But for that to happen it will take a lot of years because Bitcoin is growing over the years.

Yes, it is possible. Like any other business, Bitcoin could end up like Yahoo because of the other competitors that may rise. In the case of Yahoo, it is Google that destroyed them. In Bitcoin, it may be the most famous and most used cryptocurrency, in time it is possible that another cryptocurrency will be the next hit which will depreciate dramatically the users of Bitcoin.

However, although this is possible, Bitcoin can avoid this risk by having continuous improvement. It must unsure that the system will continue on doing good and that it is being improved in every aspect that it can.

With the current fork i hope the current issues will be settled by now but i am still waiting for the November move,just looking for the best to happen for bitcoin so that my money wont get dumped.

Sure bitcoin is the first decentralized model that solved the problems we had earlier and no one can tell that there wont be a better technology that emerges in the mean time,either way it wont die away like yahoo did for sure because it is a currency and yahoo was not.

I am agree with the statement that bitcoin is not just like yahoo. Yahoo was come down because the customers have left yahoo, but customer of bitcoin are increasing day by day due to which bitcoin price Is increasing. Experts are of the view that at the end of this year bitcoin price will touch the figure of $5000 equal to one bitcoin. Comparison of bitcoin with yahoo is not a sensible consideration.
