Yahoo was the first (?) search engine at the time when Internet started. It was the pioneer in its field. In the late 90's its market cap reached to a high closed to $120B. Three and a half years after Yahoo started, Google came out and gradually took away market share from Yahoo.
After 22 years, Verizon bought it for $4.8B. Would Bitcoin ending up like Yahoo in the future and got beat up by new competitions?
What do you think? Please provide your reason(s) to support your view.
I think it is possible, nothing is impossible. It will have a strong development process and then end. But we do not know what day it is. I do not hope that it will end soon.

Well the altcoin market has blown up and many altcoins offer more to users than bitcoin does from smart contracts to real anonymity to real world apps. The question is whether or not bitcoin will always retain its market share as the first coin without innovating further on the protocol.

I had not thought about it much, but as soon as I saw your thread I looked up the stock price for Yahoo. It closed yesterday at $48 per share. I think that Yahoo, while you may have picked it for a different reason is a really good example about future Bitcoin. Most people talk about Yahoo in reference to a failed business, how Yahoo has a search engine started out at the same time as many others and is virtually gone.
The reason why Yahoo was picked is because its news came out at the time this thread was created. The news reminded me about Yahoo and how it failed to maintain the leadership in its industry because of lacking of improvements and innovation. Cannot believe that it would take 15 to 16 times of the current gold supply in the world to pay of the current US debt.

Yes it so possible specially if the supply of bitcoin will not enough to support the upcoming demand, we can see that there are more number of users added each day and if bitcoin cannot support that surely other crypto currency will take over, But somehow if that happen maybe just for the purpose of diversification like Yahoo, it's not totally out in the market many are still using it it just that Google became an option for users..that could be possible to happen in bitcoin

In order for Bitcoin to retain its leadership as a cryptocurrency, it needs to be able to process a lot more transactions than what the to be implemented Segwit can process. It needs Lightning Network or some other technology. It needs to have very low transaction fees to allow people to buy a package of gum without paying transaction fees that is more than the value of the gum.

I can not predict that bitcoin will end up like yahoo, but the internet site world will have big changes every month, but I remain confident that bitcoin will not be like yahoo in the future.

It could happen. I sometimes used yahoo but google just was better for so many reasons. The better product will always win. We're obviously really used to change here on bitcointalk so it wouldn't be a huge stretch to change cryptocurrencies at some point. I don't see it happening in the next 5 years though.

i am agree because the internet world is always changing and if yahoo not makes any innovation, then yahoo will be get decrease and google will be the lead. but i don't think that bitcoin is end up like yahoo because bitcoin now still be leader for other crypto currency but in future, if there is any of altcoin that have many benefit than bitcoin, then bitcoin could be ending up like yahoo. we don't know what the future will be and as long as bitcoin is leading the market, then i think altcoin is difficult to compete with bitcoin. but who knows?

That certainly will not happen. Yahoo is the media market, Bitcoin is the Cryptoccurrency market. The Cryptoccurrency market is always changing in price and adopting most modern technology. Bitcoin is not just based on Cryptocurrency, Bitcoin is the cradle for Cryptocurrency to exist.

I truly agree with you. But personally, I don't see it happening in the next 30 or so years. Right now, as we all may know bitcoin is really really unknown/unpopular to the masses. I personally don't see a "better" alternative to bitcoin will arise years after mass adoption, and I don't even see bitcoin reaching mass adoption in 5 years, but I hope it does. Some people might say, "Dash is better than bitcoin". Currently faster and cheaper in terms of transactions, yes. But there are lots of downsides. One if it is Dash being centralized, which is a huge factor in my opinion. The "better-than-bitcoin" cryptocurrency would need to be far better than bitcoin in terms of tech to actually beat it, since "slightly better" wouldn't suffice due to all the publicity bitcoin is getting over other cryptocurrencies.

Fact is Yahoo simply took most of the revenue and went different directions with it. Bitcoin might actually follow much the same pattern. With the volatility of its price, it might not be the currency that makes it into the common market place. But, there is no denying that the market Capital that is built into Bitcoin will not allow it to die anytime soon.

I think it would but maybe if the time comes there would be something new like what happened in Yahoo, Google overcome it so I think even if bitcoin ended up like it something new and good will replace it so relax.

No connection yahoo is a search engine and because it didn't adapt to new and easy interface it lost it's users on other hand bitcoin is the people if no one is buying bitcoin the price will eventually crash but that won't really happen in case of yahoo nothing can be done but if bitcoin falls people can pump it easily

I think this case is different, bitcoin users and communities look very strong and loyal, so I'm sure the future of bitcoin will continue to improve and there will be countries that use bitcoin as foreign exchange reserves.

I'm wondering how you got that thinking on your mind, pretty interesting!
Well, bitcoin won't end up like that as bitcoin is not owned by any single person or entity. It is a public figure and whoever own a bitcoin is shareholder of bitcoin and it's profitability. Bitcoin which is decentralised crypto currency always takes the advantage of no rules and regulations and that's how it won't be transferred to anyone legally. The idea is very simple, if you own Yahoo, it is by all means of law suits, documentation, legal stamps and court permission everything on the other bitcoin does not have any rules or jurisdiction and ultimately you can not transfer it. So no competition for bitcoin. There is only one earth for now. :-)

Ya true so.Why because it not updated till the end of exit.New things came ,so people changed to that. But in bitcoin, it will Not happen so.Because day to day the price of bitcoin is keeps on increasing. So people use to inverse on bitcoin. The bitcoin will exist only if the people start to inverse on it.
