Yahoo was the first (?) search engine at the time when Internet started.  It was the pioneer in its field.  In the late 90's its market cap reached to a high closed to $120B.   Three and a half years after Yahoo started, Google came out and gradually took away market share from Yahoo.

After 22 years, Verizon bought it for $4.8B.  Would Bitcoin ending up like Yahoo in the future and got beat up by new competitions?

What do you think?  Please provide your reason(s) to support your view.
for me it's very different between crypto currency like Bitcoin with search sites like Google and yahoo and e-commerce sites,
I do not think Bitcoin will disappear in the era and competition ..

yes i agree they have a big different i i think btc is not ending up like yahoo because btc is an investment and we can gain through it that is why there could be a great possibility that many people use it and make it as there money making asset while in yahoo we cannot gain money because yahoo is not really an investment yahoo is not money it is only a searching tool that can really be replaced because we dont gain from it  that is why people will not really stick to it there is still yahoo but everyone use google because google is the most popular right now and i think they have big diff.also.

there is a big difference between bitcoin and yahoo. maybe bitcoin is somehow the same with the yahoo since bitcoin is leading in terms of value compared to other cryptos but basically other cryptos moves directly because of bitcoin so if bitcoin someday will down and lose all of its value in the exchange might as well that would be the end of the digital currency industry in my own opinion, I believe there will no altcoin that could defeat the bitcoin since it is the father among all the cryptos.

When I entered the community, I thought exactly this.

One day a new, great giant will wake and wipe out everything.

Is possible. It has to be unique, it has to have the support of a USA based organisation and it has to benefit the governments of the world, be under control.

Ohh wait.. maybe is ripple. or maybe is coming soon, a new top coin.

It is possible to happen well there is no such thing that last forever. But i dint think it will happen in the next upcoming five years now that Bitcoin is starting grow bigger and become famous . If there is a new crypto currency or digital currency is created and has a better benefits and advantage to consumer then maybe it is possible that Bitcoin will become like Yahoo and starting to not exist anymore which we wish is not happen now a days.

If bitcoin is Yahoo, then Ethereum is Google.

Anyway, if you don't want to get buttfucked by market fluctuations, just do like any sensed investor and buy both of them.
Yes, you'll make less money than if you only invested in the best of theses two, however, if you do a decent portfolio you'll secure your profits, because you'll still make some, no matter how market moves. Smiley

Even though, why woulb Bitcoin loose its value ? As of now, BTC's tech is not outdated, it's just a little clingy, nothing wrong with it.
All the problems we're going through with BTC's blockchain, could be fixed with one tiny core upgrade. PoS, block speedup, masternodes, smart contracts, transaction fees decrease... anything, really. ^^

it could happen. because there could be a counterpoint of a triumphant thing in its era to descend and be replaced by its successor. just as bitcoin is likely in the next few years there will be who can beat and make him descend. but at least that's hard to do

Haha, why do you not think other altcoin or new digital currency will replace Bitcoin in future? The government will not ignore the cryptocurrency world and the benefit of blockchain technology. However, apply blockchain technology in to the banking system and create a currency can manage by them is not easy.

All things can happen including bitcoin ending up like yahoo. But if bitcoin can take lessons from Yahoo's defeat of the competition, and continue to improve the features, security, bitcoin will continue to exist despite competing with other digital currencies.

That maybe happen cause nothing last here in ourworld and you can't always be at top. Bitcoin can be like yahoo but i don't think that it will happen sooner bitcoin is just starting and still has lot of space for development yahoo did'nt last because they can't keep up to those new search engine but bitcoin is a great coin and the gap between the second is too far so no need to wprry for that now, but no one can predict what's gonna happen so maybe it eventually happen.

It is hard to say and Yahoo, but the long term, it is possible, after all, the market value of Bitcoqu is getting higher and higher, and recognition is getting higher and higher.

well ftom the start we really know that cryptocurrency is really different from the searvhing tool such as goole,yahoo.etc.that is why i dont really believe that bitcoin end up like yahoo in the future.maybe there are another coin that surpass bitcoin but bitcoin didnt really simply end up like nothing i believe bitcoin is really profitable and a big help to everyone and everybody is leaning on it.it  has agreat demand and a big value that is why i dont really believe that bitcoin will end.

in fact it is not impossible to happen to bitcoin if the developers can't compete with altcoin or even ICo. After all, there are many altcoins that offer the same thing, even more than the features that bitcoin has. Yahoo is one example of the developers who failed to keep up with technological developments and the will of the users. Nokia too, experienced the same thing. So, it might happen to bitcoin.

We can never tell what the future is in store for us, Right now bitcoin takes the lead but If there is going to be a new cryptocurrency that will be introduced in the future which is going to be better that bitcoin and will get the bigger support of the community then bitcoin will have the same fate as yahoo. As for now there is no other coins like bitcoin as the support that bitcoin gets from the people is way bigger than any other coins. there are businesses, entrepreneurs that accepts bitcoin rather than any other coin.

Or maybe not all of these altcoins will beat bitcoin but another revolutionary system for digital currency or financial technology that's not using blockchain but more advanced system that makes bitcoin obsolete.
It's really possible seeing that the growth of our technology lately have been very rapid.
It's actually just the matter of time until we see revolutionary technology developed by someone else, just it's us to decide whether to switch over or not.

The differnece beteewn yahoo and google back than is that google brought somthing new to the scean and that is what made it took over the search engine field, and for bitcoin it already brought many new things to the world, and it is still doing so, and nay new currency that is coining up is just another knock off that wants to be like bitcoin but they all fail and they don't get as succefull as it is, so from here until some new technology appears there is no other coins that is going to be as succefull as the bitcoin.

BITCOIN is like the currency, YAHOO is like the platform.
I cannot compare these in another thing.
BITCOIN is required as a role of key currencies as far as there is the world of the cryptcurrency.

I'm not sure it can happen to bitcoin, because bitcoin itself is now beginning to be an investment that gives a lot of profit. and bitcoin itself is a virtual currency in which the user will definitely increase as well.
