The Paypal protection only covers the buyer. Someone can buy a GPU today, mine with it for 180 days and then file a dispute saying "Its broken".

Paypal always sides with the buyer. It doesn't matter if you got a 10 year old account with great feedback.

The only thing to actually avoid selling is iPhones, they are the number one scammed item. Even so, you'll be fine in that case as well provided you follow all PayPal seller protection guidelines ( ive had hacked accounts buy phones from me and paypal seller protection covered me).

The issue here is the person will buy your item, use it for a few months and then they say "Its broken and want their money back". You will have to pay to ship the item back to you, lose money on the original shipping and you will get your card back and the buyer will be issued a full refund.

That and sometimes the buyer will send you back a different broken GPU and you will be out of luck because as soon as the tracking number says its been delivered back to you, the money is already out of your Paypal account.

Don't believe me ask the other 5 year Bitcoin veterans on this forum like Phil who were screwed in the past by eBay and now boycott it.

I sold each of my 2 RX480's for over $100.00 more than what I purchased them for a little less than a year ago.


I figure with the shortage and high price I could sell them for more than I would mine with them in the next few months and I'll use the money to upgrade.

Haven't decided what tho.

Maybe with the money I'll buy THREE RX 580's when they are back in stock.

Or just go with a GTX 1080 Ti.........

 

I think about this every once in awhile too, but I re-did the math after reading this and decided that for me keeping them is the best deal right now. While it is true you can get $100 or more than you paid for them on ebay, in my case I am grossing $36/day on a 6x RX480 rig, so even after electrical costs I am clearing $34 which is about $5.50/day profit for each card.

So an average RX480 that I paid ~$200 for I could sell for $300 on eBay. To keep it simple let's be generous and assume the $300 is after all selling costs are subtracted, shipping, ebay fees, etc. Let's also just use $5.00 day for net income per card on average to account for daily fluctuation. After only 60 days I would make the same $300 as I would by selling but I would still have the cards. Even if mining falls off somewhat to only around $3.00/day profit, after a little over 3 months (100 days) I would still have the same profit as selling while also retaining the cards.

The cards will continue to hold value for sometime, so even if they dropped to $150 after the three months, I still netted $300 (mining) + $150 (net after selling) or $450 in total. Sure everything could collapse at any moment, but if you believe that is the case you would probably be better off just shorting the market.

So for me I would rather keep them for now and continue to mine. In 60 days I would have $300 and the cards would still be worth $200-$300. Since all my cards are ROI it simply comes down to which way I will make the most profit off of them.

Also, even if everything works out the way you think, who is to say the new cards released in a few months will not also be selling at a premium. So the way I look at it, I got a discount when I bought my cards (compared to what I could by them for today) and I am also continuing to make $5/day from each one, so for every 60 days that profitability keeps up, it's like doubling my investment (again and again).

You're expecting them to be worth the inflated amount though, I've been selling my 480's for double what I paid and then using that to buy 1070's at the normal market price, they're faster, run cooler and aren't inflated.

No, I actually said "who is to say the new cards released in a few months will not also be selling at a premium" which means it is a possibility. With the renewed interest in the Nvidia cards for just the reasons you are switching over, they may be higher, or they could be lower. Anyway, I don't set my plans in stone, like most people I monitor the various conditions on a regular basis and plan accordingly. A week from now I might be selling my cards too, but for today I am keeping them.

So basically buyers have a loophole for buyers remorse up to 180 days later, instead of the 30 days on ebay.

I know it is sellers beware on ebay but I have sold there without problems, but i have not sold items during inflated prices either.

It largely depends what you sell. Selling miners is not good on eBay. Selling items such as collectibles or baseball cards is different.

Most buyers won't do this but "some" will and can. Its no different then the scammers who buy an Xbox on Amazon and then they complain saying that the box was empty when it arrived and get a full refund.

Most people have a conscience and don't do that however since its a dick-move.

Ive sold a ton of GPU,s T9s biakals and other gear on ebay never had an issue, out of say 30 items sold i have maybe 1 bad buyer and I mark up my items accordingly to account for this.

just selling my old stock RX 480s and stock RX 470 and getting new RX 580/570 instead of them. It's a good deal. though a funny feeling i have while selling them 120€ over the price i bought em...but it's the market dictating the prices...

Selling a thing on bigger than its actual price its a bit risk. If you want to sell it just gives your customer a little discount on it brcause you have been used it before. It is good to sell our preloved items as long as it is good enough to satisfies other needs.

Same here. Also this is another reason I buy extended warranties for my items so when I sell them on eBay I defer any defects to the warranty to eliminate the chances of a chargeback. I've sold ASICs and GPUs over the years and never had issues. It's like anything you will have your good stories and your bad stories with everything. No reason to make a blanket statement for everyone as their situation will always differ.

Exactly what i was thinking lol! Why on earth would you sell 4xx series to get 5xx series?  They are just re-branded with almost the same hash-rate potential but with more power consumption. Maybe 5xx are better for gaming but certainly 4xx are the better card for mining.  Let's put it this way, if someone offered me a NIB 570 + $50 cash for one of my used 470's, I wouldn't think twice about NOT doing it lol. But most certainly, a straight across trade is a bad deal for the receiver of the 5xx.  newer isnt always better, sometimes it's worse lol

Also, the new Vega's coming out in Aug or Oct or Feb'18 are likely going to be very expensive... like along the lines of a 1080 or 1080ti.  But think of this, there's no way they are going to get 3-4x the h/r of a 4xx/5xx so the ROI is almost certainly going to be worse, all else being equal.  We'll see how long it takes to get 5xx back into the supply chain but AMD and the GPU OEMs have to be kicking themselves right about now by severely under-calling demand... millions and miillions in revenue they are missing out on last few months, while resellers are making a tidy profit.

 - been on ebay since 2000 and sold quite a bit, but i stopped selling in bulk as like it was mentioned there just too many dicks, buying stuff, then break it and try to return it, or use it and then return it. Had way too many cases like that. I have been selling used computer parts, laptops etc. Not much right now and even if i do, i do AS-IS even if it works.
 
ATI card craziness is extreme in Rockies, probably like everywhere else, i have friends from overseas calling me and asking if we have any ATI cards in stores... Germany, Baltics, Russia, Kazakhstan etc...looks like they just temporarily extinct and any older cards even HD4XXX HD5xxx ARE CRAZY HIGH PRICED.

Once VEGA comes out... if it will come one this summer as it appears they move it farther and farther from present time... i have a feeling VOLTA may even come before VEGA which would just kill VEGA on the spot (IMHO) as AMD always a second runner just like with cpu's and AMD tried to orient VEGA in beating 1080ti, which it probably will, but how much faster it will be? thats questions one and another question will be can it beat VOLTA based top line cards or at least be even? i highly doubt it... So...again everything comes to final _PRICE_ especially for AMD as it is ORIENTED TO CATCH UP with nvidia LEAD. They need to re-think their philosophy, start thinking in creating something "breakthrough" to switch spots with nvidia.
